Monday - Friday, 1st shift

Highlights of your role
• Perform preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance to keep equipment running efficiently• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems• Identify root causes of issues and ensure thorough follow-up to prevent recurrence• Plan and prioritize work, coordinating with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime• Order and manage parts as needed to maintain equipment reliability• Monitor and maintain facility systems to reduce scrap and improve overall performance

Qualifications
Education & Experience: We are looking for candidates interested in becoming licensed through our DOL approved Electrical Apprenticeship Program.
Candidates with a certificate or AS degree in electrical technology, electrical construction, instrumentation or similar or equivalent experience preferred.
Location/Travel: This position will require travel in/around Fargo,ND - up to/within a 200-mile radius. Applicants must be permanently located in/around the office location. Applicants must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license. Per diem and mileage stipends applicable per company policy.
Work Schedule: Start times, break times and work hours vary per site and stage of our projects. Our employees work more than 40 hours per week but no more than 60, as part of our commitment to safety. Due to the type of construction, weekend work maybe required on occasion.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, this role is often exposed to high/precarious places, risk of electrical shock, and all outside weather conditions. This role is expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. * Tasks include painting (application of single stage and base coat/clear coat systems), surface preparation, fiberglass repair, rust proofing and repair, window replacement, door and hood adjustment, frame and structural straightening, repair of unitized bodies and other duties of a similar level;
* Welds components to the vehicles as needed for function or safety;
* Installs and fabricates accessories and safety devices for specialty vehicles and equipment.
* Assists other Public Works Departments with operational duties as needed;
* Estimates time, parts, tools and equipment needed for repair; completes necessary forms and enters information into the fleet maintenance system to document any tasks performed. Confers with supervisor if significant amount of time and/or cost is likely to be involved.
* Fabricates parts and special tools needed to perform repairs or to rebuild equipment according to self-design or blueprint specifications including welding metallic materials and operation of various metal working machinery, such as torches, welder, grinders, etc.
* Makes recommendations as to design changes to improve the performance or maximize the operational life of equipment and provides input as to specifications for new equipment.
* Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.

A valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class B) with an air brake endorsement is required. Appropriate DOT certification and ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification are required and/or other appropriate certification. * Equipment includes gasoline and diesel engine, pumps, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, conveyor systems, heating AC systems, electrical systems, electronic/computer systems, transmission preventive maintenances, gear cases, boiler systems, valves, etc.;
* Diagnoses various equipment and vehicles when malfunction occurs by communicating with onboard computers and/or utilizing other testing devices. Makes recommendation to supervisor on appropriate repair procedures;
* Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment including safety compliance checks, in order to ensure safe and efficient operation.
* Performs all phases of major and minor repair on the bodies of vehicles operated by the departments.
* Tasks include painting (application of single stage and base coat/clear coat systems), surface preparation, fiberglass repair, rust proofing and repair, window replacement, door and hood adjustment, frame and structural straightening, repair of unitized bodies and other duties of a similar level;
* Welds components to the vehicles as needed for function or safety;
* Installs and fabricates accessories and safety devices for specialty vehicles and equipment.
* Assists other Public Works Departments with operational duties as needed;
* Estimates time, parts, tools and equipment needed for repair; completes necessary forms and enters information into the fleet maintenance system to document any tasks performed. Confers with supervisor if significant amount of time and/or cost is likely to be involved.
* Fabricates parts and special tools needed to perform repairs or to rebuild equipment according to self-design or blueprint specifications including welding metallic materials and operation of various metal working machinery, such as torches, welder, grinders, etc.
* Makes recommendations as to design changes to improve the performance or maximize the operational life of equipment and provides input as to specifications for new equipment.
* Communicates courteously and professionally and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
* Frequently communicates with others in the work unit to provide information relating to work assignments and progress of work or to convey information about conditions or work related needs; occasionally interacts with others in the work unit to exchange detailed and/or technical information where the ability to explain concepts is exercised;
* Conveys basic information to the public when approached with questions; occasionally interacts with vendors or across departments to exchange detailed and/or technical information.
* Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.
* Knows and follows department and city rules as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss;
* Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work;
* When potentially unsafe conditions are observed makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable and draws them to the attention of the responsible supervisor or safety representative in a timely manner.
* Performs other duties and activities as assigned.
The job requires an associate's degree in an appropriate mechanical specialty, such as automotive and diesel technology, and three or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. A valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class B) with an air brake endorsement is required. Appropriate DOT certification and ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification are required and/or other appropriate certification. Incumbent will also be required to furnish a complete set of hand tools needed to complete the essential duties of the position.
Knowledge, skills and abilities include:
* Knowledge of proper and safe procedures of hazardous materials handling including storage and disposal according to federal regulation;
* Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the work place;
* Knowledge of machine shop practices, welding, cutting, and other metal working techniques;
* Knowledge of concepts, principles and techniques relating to the operation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of automotive and diesel equipment;
* Knowledge of engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, brake systems, HAVC, fuel injection, electrical, electronic and computer diagnostics;
* Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations;
* Skill in basic mathematical computations to make precise measurements and develop repair estimates;
* Skill in written English sufficient to read technical manuals and instructions and to record pertinent information concerning repairs;
* Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction;
* Skill in operating general computer software programs and accessing onboard computers;
* Skill in the proper and safe operation, servicing and maintenance of material moving equipment;
* Knowledge of local and state laws and regulations regarding the operation of equipment.
Most work is performed in a shop environment, but will include outdoor work. Work varies from moderate to very heavy and requires lifting, pushing, pulling and climbing. There is regular exposure to multiple very disagreeable working conditions such as extreme weather conditions, dust, dirt, mud, fumes, and loud noise. There is regular exposure to hazardous chemicals and fuel, fumes, electrical hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and slippery conditions.
