As a Special Electronic Devices Repairer, you will ensure that vital instruments and tools are meticulously maintained and operational. This includes night vision equipment, electronic distance and azimuth-orienting devices, battlefield illumination devices, nuclear, biological, and chemical warning and measuring devices, and others.

Specific duties of the Special Electronic Devices Repairer include: testing instruments, navigational controls, and simulators; reading technical diagrams and manuals; replacing parts; ensuring quality control measures; and troubleshooting and inspecting equipment. Advanced level Special Electronic Devices Repairers are expected to supervise and train other Soldiers in the craft.

Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical/electronic equipment including but not limited to: breakers, communications systems, mine phones, programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, drives, gauges and test equipment, breakers, fuses, switches, etc.
  • Tests electrical/sets up standard or specialized test equipment and circuitry to conduct basic functional, operational and environmental tests to verify proper function of electronic components and assemblies
  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment
  • Build cabling/communications systems
  • Repair or replace faulty equipment such as defective and damaged telephones, wires, switching system components, and associated equipment
  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures
  • Performs QC inspection and testing for electronic components and assemblies
  • Ensure the work station and surrounding areas are clean and orderly at the end of each day.

Tools and Equipment

  • Various hand tools - wire strippers, crimpers, drill, and razor knife
  • Multimeters, Volt-Ohm meters, Hi-pot
  • Use overhead crane, forklift, hoists, to assist in electrical assembly and moving materials/projects
  • Properly care for and maintain tools in good operating condition; ensure tools and equipment is properly stored at the end of each shift.
