SALARY LEVEL
Pay level for this position:
GS 7-9: $42,679.00-$67,865.00
Salary shown is the base salary for the grade levels. Salary is also commensurate with professional experience.
MAJOR DUTIES
Perform installation, maintenance, and operational testing required to maintain the Bureau's communication and intrusion systems in optimal condition.
Perform maintenance and service functions required to obtain optimal operational capability of a wide variety of complex equipment incorporated into FM radio, radio teletype, secure telephone, data and teletype, and intrusion systems.
Use test equipment and advanced techniques to perform installation, maintenance, and repair tasks as well as operational testing of the FM radio system (base stations, repeaters, remote and mobile transmitters/receivers, and personal equipment).
Conduct preventive maintenance by regularly inspecting and testing equipment for reliability and accuracy to prevent breakdown.
Perform corrective maintenance to restore systems that are out of operating condition through extensive analytical testing and take positive action to replace or repair deficient or malfunctioning components and units.
Review pertinent technical manuals, remain current with technology, and be available to attend government-sponsored training classes.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
GS-7: Applicant must possess at least one year of specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
Assisted with the physical installation and maintenance of electronic communication systems.
Conducted routine equipment tests; performed basic corrections and/or replacing defective parts.
Handled, stored, and inventoried a variety of electronic equipment and components.
GS-9: Applicant must possess at least one year of specialized experience (SE) equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. SE is defined as follows:
In addition to the above:
Performed physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic communication systems.
Performed installations and preventive and corrective (or emergency) maintenance and service work on FM radio systems, data networks, or electronic physical security systems.
Inspected equipment for adherence to standards and tolerances.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver's license.
Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Clearance.
Must be willing to travel as required.

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher from a U.S. accredited college or university in one of the following fields: Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Networking, Telecommunications, or Computer Science.
Education may be substituted for specialized experience (SE) as follows:
GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one full year of graduate-level education. Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or ElectronicsTechnician, DC1 1/15/26 4 of 4 university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.
GS-9:Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree (or LLB or JD, if related).
All degrees must be verified by submitting college transcripts.

Job Responsibilities:
Technical Tasks:
* Maintaining the health of our global fleet of robots through daily maintenance and repair tasks. Which can include but is not limited to - diagnosing unforeseen problems, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, and repairing or replacing faulty equipment (tires, electronics, motors).
* Carrying out preventive maintenance activities and upgrades on robots and infrastructure. Monitoring and servicing our internal systems, running tests and completing reports, and completing updates or improvements to existing systems as appropriate.
* Perform root cause analysis to identify the causes of faults or problems and systematically develop a solution to prevent/solve underlying issues.
Operational Tasks:
* Accurately document all tasks/partner or internal messaging related to service concerns or robot-related issues using appropriate applications/tools.
* Maintain a clean and organized hub by performing accurate spare parts inventory audits twice a week and ensuring all tools are accounted for and returned to their proper location after use.
* Work with our engineering team to identify any potential improvements regarding robot health and design.
* Assist our Operational Team and vendors/merchants by providing in-person assistance through performing weekly Merchant Preflights to understand any service-related issues, provide operational and troubleshooting assistance related to Starship-provided devices, and act as a Starship brand representative while interacting with clients.
* Occasionally support our Operational Service team by assisting with Robot field rescues or operational services tasks when needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
* A passion for robots and innovative technologies.
* Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering or another related STEM field.
* Previous experience in Technical Support and with any service desk application is beneficial, but not required.

Duties
Help
* Perform simple, preventive and corrective maintenance on various items of equipment of the Bureau's communications and intrusion systems; test and replace defective components and perform preventive maintenance at predetermined intervals as recommended by manufacturers.
* Assist higher grade technician(s) during installation, maintenance and removal of equipment and associated systems by performing basic test and maintenance checks developing skills necessary for performing advanced maintenance tasks.
* Review pertinent technical manuals, remain current with technology, and be available to attend government sponsored training classes if offered to the trainee.
* Make appropriate notation in equipment maintenance log regarding maintenance performed.
* Take periodic inventory of radio parts and check results against a spare parts quota which is prepared by the senior technician in office.

Qualifications
Applicants can qualify for the GS-7 level based on Specialized Experience (SE) or Education. There are four (4) methods by which candidates may meet the qualification requirements for the ElectronicsTechnician Trainee GS-7 position:
Method 1 - Education in Basic Electronics:
To qualify based on education, you must have completed six (6) credit hours in basic electronics. Hours can be obtained in one or more of the following courses:

Method 2 - Radio Experience:
To qualify based on radio experience, you must have either one OR two years of SE as listed below:
* One year of SE: SE must be with Motorola Radio in RF, Infrastructure Maintenance, Subscriber Devices, and/or Tactical Communications; or
* Two years of SE: SE can be with any radio brand in RF, Infrastructure Maintenance, Subscriber Devices, and/or Tactical Communications.
Method 3 - Data Network Experience:
To qualify based on data network experience, you must have either one OR two years of SE as listed below:
* One year of SE: SE must be with Cisco switch and router programming in network infrastructure, network maintenance, and/or telecommunications; or
* Two years of SE: SE can be with any switch and router programming brand in network infrastructure, network maintenance, and/or telecommunications.
Method 4 - Physical Security Systems Experience:
To qualify based on physical security systems experience, you must have two years of SE as described below:
* Two years of SE: SE must be in alarm installation, access control installation, security programming, and/or video security system installation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires strenuous physical exertion such as climbing tall ladders or towers, long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; and recurring lifting heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds such as radio and related communications systems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations such as electrical shocks, falls from high towers, inclement weather conditions (rain, snow, ice, and high winds), requiring a range of safety and other precautions, including accompaniment by another technician when performing duties considered hazardous to life and limb.
