As a Water Resources IE&C Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the reliability of our water and wastewater treatment facilities. Your work ensures that critical infrastructure operates safely and efficiently, directly impacting the health and well-being of our community.
You'll be responsible for technical maintenance, repair, installation, and replacement of electrical and electronic equipment, helping PWC deliver on its mission of safe, productive utility service.
What You'll Do
Install, maintain, repair, and replace pumps, motors, hydraulic systems, and other apparatus in water/wastewater treatment and lift station facilities
Perform regular and preventive maintenance inspections, including lubrication and replacement of equipment and parts
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical, electronic, and mechanical malfunctions
Conduct electrical work and minor welding to fabricate, install, or repair parts such as gates, stands, gear boxes, and flocculators
Inspect elevated water storage tanks and pumping stations
Service chemical feeds at various dispersed points
Maintain accurate records of preventive maintenance and repairs
Operate vehicles and equipment to perform work assignments
Adhere to safety rules and procedures, working in environments with exposure to waterborne pathogens, chemicals, dust, fumes, gases, loud noises, electrical current, and confined spaces
Be available for extended hours, weekends, and on-call/call-back assignments as required
What We're Looking For
Good knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures
Solid understanding of electrical principles as applied to water/wastewater treatment and pumping equipment
Proficiency with tools, parts, and methods for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment
Ability to detect electrical, electronic, and mechanical malfunctions
Skill in using and maintaining trade tools; ability to read and follow schematics, drawings, blueprints, and instructions
Competence in mathematical calculations and computer use in water/wastewater treatment
Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to work in confined spaces and develop effective working relationships with all levels of employees
Education & Experience:
Graduation from an accredited two-year community/technical college with a degree/certification in electrical and mechanical technology, plus at least two years of experience in maintenance/repair of water/wastewater equipment, pumps/motors, and electrical repairs; OR
Graduation from high school or equivalent, plus at least four years of relevant experience; OR
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Special Requirements:
Functional Employment Test (FET) required
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
For Lift Stations: Must obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina Class B (CDL) Driver's License within six months of employment or assignment

Assist with training operators on manufacturing processes that are accepted for production.

•Work as a member of a two-person crew performing subsurface soil and rock sampling and testing using rotary drill rigs and hand equipment.
•Coordinate mobilization of equipment and materials to project sites and maintain records of materials and equipment utilization.
•Perform light mechanical repair and maintenance on equipment.
•Coordinate preventive maintenance and major repairs with local shop supervisors.
•Operate and/or direct operation of rotary drilling and support equipment.
•Be responsible for site safety by recognizing and correcting safety hazards or unsafe work conditions and leading or participating in daily safety briefings.
•Communicate changes in subsurface conditions to the field professional based on response of the drilling rig.
•Assist the field professional with sampling and measurements as necessary to complete field logging.
•Select appropriate drilling equipment and method to advance and stabilize boreholes for sampling and testing such as Standard Penetration Test with an automatic hammer, undisturbed tube sampling, rock coring, and vane shear.
Frequent overnight travel will be required for this position.
A valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License is required for this position to mobilize drilling equipment. Applicant will be given 60 days to obtain a Class A CDL Permit and 90 days from the date of hire to obtain a Class A CDL Driver's License.
Pre-employment drug testing will be required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing
