Requirements of Engineering Technician:

Job Description
IIA Fire Department Testing, a leading company in the fire safety industry, is looking for full-time General Laborers to join our Portland, Maine team immediately as Fire Equipment Technicians. We provide an essential service testing fire equipment for fire departments at their locations.
This is a general labor position with no previous experience required. All training will be done on-site. Starting hourly rate is $23.00/hour. Meals and lodging are covered by the company when traveling out of state. A $500 retention bonus will be paid after 60 days of successful employment.
Work is during the months of April through November.
Responsibilities
Test and inspect every inch of fire hose by :
Removing all hose from fire apparatus and racks
Performing required recordings and tests
Repacking hoses to the proper place
Test & Inspect other fire equipment on fire apparatus as needed
Qualifications
Reliable transportation to work
Be able to pass a drug test and background check
Hard working and very dependable
Working Conditions
Work is Monday-Friday and occasionally Saturday
Typical week consists of 40+ hours (Average of 50 hours/week)
Occasional work day can be 12+ hours; Shift is not over until job is completed
Daily pick-up is 7:30 am at Park and Ride in South Portland
Transportation to work site via company vehicle
Occasional work trip out of state required for up to 1 week (hotel and food provided by company)
Steel toe work boots required and work shirts supplied by company
Physical Requirements
Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
Frequently required to walk and bend over.

Reports to: O&M Director
The O & M Vegetation and Snow Control Technician will be responsible for site maintenance of vegetation and snow removal, communicating service schedules with customers, and performing field service including mowing, herbicide application, use of power trimmers, removal of debris, and snow removal. The ideal candidate should have a safety-first mindset, strong mechanical aptitude, ability to operate machinery, communication and organizational skills necessary to achieve work order completion. This role must be capable of working independently or in a team environment. This is a full time traveling position.
Essential Functions:
1. The belief that all work can be completed with ZERO injuries and the safety of all employees and site personnel is top priority.
2. Perform vegetation control and snow removal when required according to work order system or as directed by management.
3. Ensure that contracted maintenance schedules are adhered to.
4. Work with other members of the maintenance team, sub-contractors and other groups to continuously improve process, maintenance performance, site quality and maintenance cost improvement.
5. Create service reports and maintain spare parts inventory.
6. Complete minor equipment repairs and routine maintenance.
7. Identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards.
8. Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving.
9. Be available for weekend shifts as needed.
10. Conduct other duties as required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently inspect the project and may be exposed to ongoing construction and various weather conditions. This position is performed primarily in outside weather conditions.
Physical Demands:
Work is to be performed in the field and in the warehouse or equipment maintenance buildings.
Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures. PPE personal protective equipment usage is required (including but not limited to: safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, face shield). Adherence to OSHA guidelines is required.
Must have the ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 40 hours per week and will likely require longer hours and weekend work.
Travel:
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel is to be expected.
Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
· Ability to drive company truck and trailer, and other equipment as needed
· Ability to operate commercial mower, string trimmer, herbicide sprayer, snow removal equipment
· Ability to obtain necessary license for herbicide application
· Ability to use company provided software, with training provided
· Valid Driver's License and clean driving record
· Ability to take direction and complete tasks with minimal oversight
· Ability to complete OSHA 10 certification within 3 months of hire date
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
· Ability to operate skid steer with trenching attachment, bool lift, and telehandler
· Experience working in vegetation industry or as professional snow plow operator
· Experience working on solar construction is a plus
· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus
