The Dell Medical School in conjunction with Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas (DCMCCT), is seeking Advanced Practice Nurses or Physician Assistants to be part of the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease. These individuals will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to serve the growing need of the regional pediatric population to deliver world class pediatric heart care.
Responsibilities
Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs health assessments, screening, and patient care.
Provides direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment options and community resources.
Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.
Participates in orientation and education of staff and students.
Other related functions as assigned
Required Qualifications
Physician's Assistant credentialed from the Texas Medical Board or Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing. Licensed Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Authority specializing in Cardiac Critical Care. Credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing in Acute Care nursing. Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various situations. Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providers as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team. Purpose
The Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) RN provides specialized nursing care for patients with mechanical circulatory support devices, primarily Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs), used in the treatment of advanced heart failure. This role coordinates inpatient and outpatient care, including pre-implant education, post-operative management, and long-term follow-up. The VAD RN collaborates closely with cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, transplant coordinators, advanced practice providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary heart failure team. Assist an interdisciplinary research team in the Bipolar Disorder Center / Almeida lab at Dell Medical School, Department of Psychiatry and Behavior Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin with collecting and analyzing psychological and neuroimaging measures for the bipolar and major depressive disorder population.
Responsibilities
Develop, collect, conduct, and analyze research projects including psychological measures using standard interviews (self-report and/or clinician based) and neuroimaging measures as part of a team of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate assistants.
Assist with data entry and database management.
Assist with IRB submission & management
Review medical records and conduct screenings for study recruitment. Execute data collection procedure and assessment and assist with subject recruitment, including obtaining consent of research subjects.
Help with subject management, scheduling and reimbursement. Provide exceptional and tactful support to research subjects via phone, email, etc.
Assist with manuscripts and publications (authorship will depend on candidate's initiative).

Responsibilities
Assist with procedures to analyze, diagnose and treat the cardiovascular system.
Perform active physiological monitoring of heart rate, rhythm, pressures, and saturations. Anticipate changes during cases that indicate necessary information, such as catheter position. Accurately identify and communicate patient condition changes to the physician and team.
Routinely perform patient testing and/or monitoring to include oxygen saturation, cardiac output, shunting, hemodynamic calculations and other intra-procedure testing and resulting as applicable.
Demonstrate knowledge and variation of procedures, including the equipment/supplies used for performance. Demonstrate proper handling, preparation, and maintain asepsis.
Anticipate and adapt to physician and case needs.
Assist with room setup, patient transport and post-procedure clean-up. Ensure infection control and sharp safety procedures are followed regarding waste and reusable products.
Perform patient education regarding post-procedure monitoring and care of catheter insertion site. Provide instructions and information regarding activity including normal, variant and issues requiring intervention.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
One or more of the following required:
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Cardiographic Tech specializing in Electrophysiology credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Annual Base Salary:
GS-5 and GS-7: $40,332 - $109,952 per year

This is a career ladder position with promotion potential up to GS-12. You will be eligible for promotion to the next higher grade after 52 weeks at each level, subject to agency discretion.
