Elkhart Clinic company history timeline

1912

Close to Elkhart Health and Aquatics Center is the location of the original hospital to serve the residents of Elkhart. It was sold for $3,315 in 1912 to fund the Elkhart General Hospital building fund.

1950

During the 1950’s after the depression, population in Morton County started to increase and the need for a larger facility was present.

1954

The Elkhart Clinic was founded in 1954 with the partnership of four physician specialists: Doctors Thomas Elliott, Jack Ivy, James Futterknecht and Ed Dovey.

1999

The Center for Healing & Hope began in 1999 as an outreach of St John’s Catholic Church in Goshen, Indiana.

2002

2002: The center became a nonprofit and moved its clinic to The Window in downtown Goshen to accommodate the large patient volumes.

2004

2004: The need for additional space required another move to the The Lighthouse Church of Goshen.

2012

2012: Goshen clinic and office staff moved to Plymouth United Church of Christ.

2014

2014: Due in part to the opening of Heart City Health Center’s second office, Scenic Health in Elkhart, more of the needs of Elkhart residents were being met.

2017

The clinic is open four times a week to offer urgent medical care.2017: The Center for Healing & Hope embraced Elkhart County HOPE (Helping Our People Everywhere) and extended our services beyond medical clinics to also include resources and assistance for immigrants.

2018

2018: The Center for Healing & Hope launched its Chronic Care clinics, employing a physician and medical assistants for the first time to provide consistent, ongoing care to people with diabetes and other chronic conditions.

2019

The brick structure formerly known as the Clark Homeopathic Hospital was razed in 2019 in preparation for building the Elkhart Health and Aquatics Center.
