RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
Responsible for monitoring and operating the Boiler Plant.
Ensures continuous steam supply to Ellis and Sunnyview Hospitals for the heating of buildings and domestic water tanks, kitchen equipment, and sterilization of instruments.
Monitors and records all specific readings, temperatures, pressures, water levels, water and fuel consumed, steam consumed and where steam was supplied, using strict specific specifications.
Tests and treats boiler water with chemicals, blow-down boilers and record all test results in the log book.
Adjusts and maintains parameters as needed.
Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on pumps, compressors, valves, meters, water conditioning equipment and boilers.
Replaces defective gaskets and seals on related equipment.
Prepares boilers for yearly inspections consisting of water sash, specific water tubes, sweep and clean fire box flue passageway using lock out tag out procedures and personal protective equipment as necessary for all routine evaluations.
Tests emergency power equipment, document any conditions outside of normal parameters and informs manager of such.
Dispatches, records and responds to all maintenance trouble calls on second and thirds shifts.
Notifies manager of any operational problems.
Assists in snow removal as necessary, contacts necessary personnel when fire, or a disaster has been issued.
Responsible for general cleaning and painting of walls, floors and equipment.
Makes routine round of hospital mechanical rooms documenting pressures, temperatures, flows and off normal conditions as per training and round sheets.
Operates the pneumatic tube system and hospital energy management computer.
Operates the hospital Simplex Fire system and the fire pump.
Attends inservices and safety training as required by management.
Assists in reviewing and developing department policies and procedures.

Summary

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance.
