Elmhurst 1925 is based in Elma, NY and known for developing one of the cleanest and most nutrient dense plant-based milk alternatives around.

1926

In 1926, the numbers grew to 610 houses, 125 stores, and 90 miscellaneous places.

1939

Schwartz still remembers watching his grandmother demonstrating how to milk a cow and explaining the dairy business during the 1939 World’s Fair, when he was about 5 years old.

1948

In 1948, the dairy merged with Juniper Valley, which at the time had 200 milking cows and was run by Percy Krout, Dora’s son.

1980

The resulting company, named Steuben Foods after the county of origin, was incorporated in 1980.

1985

The current Elma facility opened in 1985.

1987

The situation changed dramatically in 1987, when the state deregulated milk sales, allowing dealers from other areas to sell their milk in New York, fueling fierce competition and driving down prices, Schwartz said.

2016

In 2016, Henry Schwartz closed New York City's last dairy, Elmhurst.

2017

He went all in on the plant-based revolution by partnering with Doctor Cheryl to bring her technology to market in 2017.
