In this high visibility position, the Trade compliance leader plays an important role by ensuring the company operates efficiently, maintains customer trust, and achieves its global business objectives while protecting the company from regulatory risks, financial penalties, and reputational damage by ensuring compliance with international trade laws. The ideal candidate will be local to the Knoxville, TN area. Job Purpose: The Trade Compliance Leader is responsible for ensuring the global supply chain and operations team adhere to all applicable international trade laws, regulations, and company policies. This role leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of trade compliance programs, working cross-functionally with sourcing, logistics, legal, and business units to mitigate risk and enable efficient, compliant global trade. Responsibilities: Regulatory Compliance Oversight: * Monitor, interpret, and implement global trade regulations, import/export controls, sanctions, and customs requirements relevant to electronics manufacturing. * Ensure accurate product classification, country of origin determination, and valuation to support customs clearance and compliance with trade agreements. * Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. and international trade laws, including ITAR, EAR, and other export control frameworks. Program Development & Implementation: * Develop, implement, and maintain robust trade compliance policies, procedures, and training programs for employees and partners. * Lead risk assessments and internal audits to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions. * Manage and update trade compliance management systems, including documentation and reporting tools. Leadership & Collaboration: * Serve as the primary trade compliance liaison for executive leadership and business units, providing expert guidance on trade-related risks and opportunities. * Partner with sourcing, logistics, legal, and business teams to embed compliance into business processes and strategic sourcing decisions. * Lead and mentor a team of trade compliance professionals, fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement. Operational Excellence: * Oversee customs broker relationships and manage customs clearance processes to ensure timely, compliant shipments. * Analyze trade data, monitor KPIs, and implement process improvements to reduce risk and costs. * Identify and maximize opportunities for duty reduction and special trade program utilization. Training & Communication: * Provide ongoing compliance training and awareness programs for employees and business partners. * Communicate regulatory changes and compliance requirements to key stakeholders across the organization. * Collaborate with various departments, including supply chain, logistics, legal, and procurement, to ensure consistent application of trade compliance policies. * Other reasonable directives, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in international business, supply chain, law, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CUSECO, CUSECO, LCB) is preferred. * At least 8 years of experience in trade compliance, import/export, or supply chain management, preferably in the electronics or high-tech manufacturing sector. Preferred Qualifications: * Proven leadership experience managing compliance teams and cross-functional projects. * Experience identifying and executing process improvements. * Leverage technology to streamline trade compliance processes and improve efficiency. * Thorough knowledge of US Customs laws and regulations. * Trade compliance certifications highly preferred. Specific Professional Skills/Competencies: * Deep understanding of U.S., European, and international trade regulations, including HTS Classification, EAR, and customs requirements. * Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. * Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities. * Familiarity with trade management software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and data analytics tools. * Efficiently and effectively manages workload to include competing priorities and deadlines, ensuring on-time completion of activities. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Expert in business administration, shipping modes, and freight providers. * Strong project management and conflict resolution skills. * Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve Compliance and operational issues. * Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. As Director, you will define and scale your team, create a roadmap, implement operational processes, and close gaps in people, process, and technology to support enrollment and billing capabilities for the Covered California line of business. You will play a key role in strengthening revenue recognition processes, supporting managed care contract modeling, and maintaining reimbursement estimation tools used for forecasting and financial planning. Responsibilities Leadership Functions (45%) Cultivate and promote a mission-driven culture of high-quality performance with a member focus on customer service, consistency, dignity, and accountability. Direct, hire, and train department managers and staff; set monthly or quarterly goals.
