How You'll Contribute:
We always do whatever it takes, even if it isn’t specifically our “job.” In general, the Embryologist is responsible for:
Identification, assessment and culture of oocytes; sperm preparation and insemination of oocytes Assessment and selection embryos for transfer; embryo vitrification, storage and warming Oocyte vitrification, storage and warming The position involves preparation of all media used with human gametes. The position involves diagnostic semen analysis Preparation and care of gametes/embryos throughout the laboratory process: IVF, ICSI, VIT, ET, Thaw and PGD Cryopreservation and thawing of embryos at varying stages of development Assessing fertilization and zygote quality following insemination Records and reports results in Artworks TBSA, PESA, TESA and TESE collection Oocyte denuding and ICSI insemination PGD biopsy Responsible for embryo discharge and storage Responsible for donor sperm/embryo tracking under FDA regulations
What You'll Bring:
Minimum 5 years experience in Embryology.
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant laboratory science.
Must demonstrate the ability to function effectively without direct supervision, and to perform laboratory services in accord with the Laboratory Philosophy and Operating Standards.
Proven ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
Knowledge of office procedures and office machines (i.e. computer, fax, copier, etc.).

Lead Embryologist: Involves assisting patients with reproductive health issues & performing semen analysis, processing hormonal assay and laboratory quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. Support Andrology related research. Perform Quarterly Audits, daily review of patient test results including hormonal assay. Prepare the lab for College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection. The fundamental requirement of this position includes leading Andrology lab operations. This position will ensure timely protocol development, data management and integrity, and regulatory compliance. This person will provide leadership to and train Embryologists and/or other support personnel to assure compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations and the ICH Guidance on Good Clinical (Research) Practice, as well as UCSF Institutional policies.

The Lead Embryologist is responsible for, and very important to the overall operational management of Andrology Lab and Clinic activities. The position may perform expert and efficient integration of multiple complex programmatic activities, applying a sophisticated medical knowledge base, substantial leadership skills, effectively working with a variety of people and organizations at UCSF (clinicians, investigators, clinical staff, administration, Committee on Human Research, human resources, contracts and grants) and elsewhere (industry sponsors, coordinating centers, FDA, NIH), exhibiting an in-depth knowledge of specific programs.
Due to the nature of work, flexibility in schedule is a requirement.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in life science (Biology or closely related area).

Description

The Embryologist II reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Embryologist II is an experienced, fully-trained embryologist who has a thorough knowledge of assisted reproduction. This position is primarily responsible for performing procedures for artificial reproductive technology including complete human egg fertilization and embryo culturing. This includes microscopic identification of oocytes contained in follicular fluid following the aspiration procedure, classifying the oocytes depending on nuclear characteristics (a measure of oocyte maturation), preparation of granulose cells for co culture, sperm preparation (washing, isolation, buffer treatment, count, motility analysis), oocyte insemination, microscopic identification of fertilized eggs, cryopreservation of excess embryos, preparation of embryos for transfer to the uterus, thawing of cryopreserved embryos for transfer to the uterus.

The Embryologist II performs advanced micromanipulation techniques including embryo biopsy and ICSI to facilitate fertilization and monitors media quality to assure ability to support growth of embryos.

Responsibilities:

* Performs advanced micromanipulation of embryos and oocytes including embryo biopsy and ICSI
* Performs laboratory assignments correctly and reliably, including routine procedures and quality control tests, as described in the Laboratory Procedure Manual. Certain amount of assignments will take place on weekend and after regular working hours.
* Contribute to patient management by communication laboratory findings and interpretations of the findings with physicians, nurses and patients, if appropriate.
* Assist laboratory director in maintaining and updating laboratory supplies and equipment.
* Assist laboratory director in data collection and analysis.
* Assist laboratory director in laboratory preparedness for CAP
* Participate in continuing education activities.
* Participate in continuing quality improvement programs of the foundation and laboratory.
* Participates in training of new staff as requested

Qualifications

Required:

* Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical sciences or equivalent relevant experience.
* Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in a relevant role.
* Previous experience in advanced micromanipulation, tissue culture, sterile techniques and egg iteration.

Preferred:

* Certification as ART
