Community Health Systems emergency dispatcher job description

The Access Transport Coordinator coordinates the transportation of patients in the CHS system. The Access Transport Coordinator performs initial triaging using approved clinical criteria to assure patient acceptance and admission are consistent with current protocols and procedures. The Access Transport Coordinator will work closely with the Bed/Capacity Coordinator to identify, trend and report barriers to patient throughput.

* Acts as a liaison across many points of communication within Community Health Systems affiliates from physicians to nurses, as well as departments and facilities.
* Process and document patient information, with respect to all guidelines and policies in place including regulatory knowledge of EMTALA, CHS Ethics and Compliance policies, and quality initiatives.

The qualified candidate must have 3-5 years acute care experience (Preferred Critical Care or ER settings), Type 38 words/min. EMT Multistate/ Compact Licensure preferred due to services being offered in multiple states.

Responsibilities

* Receives, triages and records non-emergency and emergency response calls in accordance with standard operating procedures.
* Operates a variety of communications equipment including radio consoles, telephones, paging systems, overhead PA systems and computer-aided dispatch systems.
* Monitors security cameras and alarms for campus facilities to observe and report persons or objects that present risk or potential violation of policy.
* Performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties involved in the preparation, maintenance, and organization of the call center environment.
* Remains current with all policies and procedures.
* Participates in training, drills and competency assessments.
* Submits timely and accurate information in all communications and reports.
* Provide good customer service and maintain a professional and helpful telephone manner.

Qualifications

* High School diploma. A degree in criminal justice or related fields preferred. A combination of relevant experience and education will also be considered.
* Four years of customer service experience that includes customer service in an environment with frequent interruptions. Six years or more of customer service experience that includes customer service in an environment with frequent interruptions is preferred.
* Must submit to and pass a criminal background check.
* Must obtain and maintain required certifications in the following programs (training provided by department):
* CPR/AED/First Aid
* Certified 911 Telecommunicator
* AVADE/HDTS De-Escalation Training
* FEMA ICS 100
* Sentry-RMS Law Enforcement Training

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

* Demonstrated competency in DFCI dispatch systems including Dispatch Module, Aware, DFCI Paging, Report Exec, CCURE, Lynx and Mir 3.
* Maintain competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing).
* Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to be an effective team member and the ability to interact effectively at various social levels and across diverse cultures.
* Good organizational skills.
* Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
* Ability to speak clearly to broadcast announcements over public address.

Our new, state of the art facility, located in Pagosa Springs, dispatches emergency service calls 24-hours per day, 365 days a year for public safety agencies in Archuleta County. This essential role ensures community safety through effective communications duties supporting Police, Fire, Sheriff's Office, and EMS agencies.

Dispatch duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive and analyze incoming 911 calls, as well as non-emergent calls, for police, fire, rescue and medical assistance
  • Utilize computer aided dispatch computer system to input, retrieve and maintain vital information
  • Performing emergency medical dispatch when necessary
  • Distribute calls for service via the 800 MHz radio system
  • Monitors, inputs and retrieves various requests on the CCIC/NCIC system including warrant entries
  • File police reports and maintain history records
  • Prepare and maintain master name crime indexes
  • Maintain radio log and recording

Qualified applicants should be passionate about learning and working in the Public Safety/Emergency Services, and have the ability to remain calm and professional in a variety of situations. In addition, they must meet the following qualifications:
