About this Job:
MedSTAR Transport within MedStar Health is actively seeking Emergency Vehicle Operators/ Emergency Medical Techs to provide basic patient medical care during interfacility ambulance transport. You will perform medical procedures under the supervision of a transport paramedic, transport nurse, or established protocol.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Safely and efficiently operates the ground ambulance obeying all driving laws.
Conducts an inspection of the assigned ambulance at the beginning of each shift to ensure the ambulance is ready and safe for use.
As part of the programs safety management system, provides feedback and participates in program safety initiatives.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Ensures cleanliness and appropriate par levels of supplies in transport vehicle(s).
Establishes and maintains professional radio communications with MedSTAR and other agencies, adhering to appropriate FCC protocols.
Initiates department standing orders in appropriate patients. Performs basic airway techniques including oxygen therapy. May perform bag-mask ventilation according to established departmental protocols in emergency situations.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patients and families. Provides basic patient comfort measures during procedures. When necessary, provides environmental support to expedite timely patient admission or transfer. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve the environment of care.
Participates in MedSTAR Transport safety program. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required
Successful completion of an approved EMT course required
Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course prior to release from orientation required
Experience
1-2 years EMT experience preferred
License / Certification
NREMT - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B) required
EMT - Emergency Medical Tech in the District of Columbia within 30 Days required
EMT - Emergency Medical Tech in Maryland required
MedSTAR Transport" or "Mid Atlantic Air Transportation Services" affiliation as an EMT prior to release from orientation required
CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
FEMA ICS 100 Course prior to release from orientation required
FEMA ICS 200 Course FEMA IS-200.c Basic Incident Command systems for Initial Response prior to release from orientation required
DL - Valid State Driver's License in good standing required
No more than four points assigned to driver's license and must maintain a satisfactory driving record (no more than four points).
Completion of approved Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (e.g., CEVO, EVOC) prior to release from orientation

Plan of care focused on discharging patients safely with protocolized care pathways within 24 hours

Designated provider team (MDs/ APPs) available with Care Management support
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the RN provides age-appropriate care. Minimum of 6 months experience as a CNA, or 6 months experience as a Medical Corpsman, EMT, or comparable positions, or currently enrolled in an accredited RN BSN program - must have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing and one semester of adult acute care clinical requirement

Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbent provides emergency medical care in accordance with innovative and data driven protocols, which may include stabilizing critically ill or injured patients through the application of advanced life support procedures, such as intubation, peripheral intravenous insertion, defibrillation, and administration of pharmacological agents. The incumbent will drive a medic unit to a specific address or location of an emergency, choosing the most direct and expeditious route in a timely and safe manner. The incumbent will maintain basic and advanced life support care during transportation to the appropriate hospital emergency department. The incumbent will accurately report, verbally and in writing, observations, interventions, and emergency care given to the patient at the scene and in transit to the emergency department for record keeping and diagnostic purposes. The incumbent may manage emotionally disturbed, alcohol and drug intoxicated, and unruly patients.
Incumbent performs as a firefighter, responding to all conditions and life-hazards, both known and unknown, with a minimal response time. Upon arrival at an emergency incident, the incumbent will relay conditions, life-hazards, and exposures to commanding officers. As a Firefighter Paramedic the incumbent will examine structures for signs of fire extension or other dangers and determine the safest evacuation route for occupants. The incumbent will make forcible entries, make openings for ventilation, perform overhaul operations, deploy hose lines, and operate hydrant systems. Firefighter Paramedics drive and operate fire suppression apparatus of significant complexity, including pumps, aerial ladder trucks, and rescue squads. Firefighter Paramedics may extricate injured and/or entrapped patients by safely employing rescue techniques, which include various extrication devices. Additionally, they will use power tools, saws, and ventilation fans.
Qualifications and Education
Candidates must successfully pass and complete the DC Fire and EMS Department's Recruit Training Course and pass all probationary requirements. Candidates will demonstrate competence providing pre-hospital emergency care through various mechanisms, including field training.

Conducts daily pager tests at required intervals, ensuring proper response times. In the event a pager is not functional, will coordinate with the duty provider and Information Technology Department to repair or replace telecommunication equipment.

Maintains an electronic daily activity log of all activities according to locally established protocols. Provides input to the supervisor regarding maintenance and updating of checklists. Maintains on and off base maps and other visual aids frequently utilized as quick information references for responding emergency personnel.
Operates and maintains telephones, radios, automated data processing equipment, printers, and other devices installed in the dispatch center. What Will You Do?
In this role, you will provide support for the 24/7 Medical Emergency Dispatch and Communications Center at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD.
Responsibilities:
Provides emergency communication reception and dispatching services. Determines the nature of the emergency in accordance with established guidelines.
Determines the response and services to be rendered based upon the emergency call received and dispatches the correct emergency team based upon the information received.
Maintains constant liaison with the scene of the emergency to include; fire officials, police, Command Duty Officer, and any other unit control centers involved with the emergency until official termination of the incident.
During periods of multiple emergencies, uses independent judgment to determine which calls need immediate attention. Additionally, prioritizes multiple emergency and non-emergency calls to determine appropriate response levels based on the needs of the caller.
Monitors various emergency radios including police, fire, and mutual aid frequencies.
Provides information to senior officials as requested. Conducts follow-up inquiries to track action being taken within the hospital.
Coordinates with military and civilian agencies in response to aid requests in accordance with locally established protocols.
Conducts daily pager tests at required intervals, ensuring proper response times. In the event a pager is not functional, will coordinate with the duty provider and Information Technology Department to repair or replace telecommunication equipment.
Maintains an activity log of all significant daily events, emergencies, processes, or notifications received through the communication center. Maintains an electronic daily activity log of all activities according to locally established protocols. Takes necessary measures to ensure information contained in each data entry is accurate and provides a clear picture of emergency and daily activities of the dispatch center.
Maintains maps, checklists, online data logs, and charts. Maintains checklists and is fully proficient in the use of these checklists during emergency operations.
Provides input to the supervisor regarding maintenance and updating of checklists. Maintains on and off base maps and other visual aids frequently utilized as quick information references for responding emergency personnel.
Operates and maintains telephones, radios, automated data processing equipment, printers, and other devices installed in the dispatch center. Monitors radio and telephone communications with police, fire, and hospital units during emergencies. Refers non-emergency callers to appropriate agencies as needed.
Receives, relays, and transfers phone calls and documents messages. Operates Hospital Code Alarm system. Receives and processes all significant information received in accordance with established protocols. Operates WRNMMC paging system to make announcements
Prepares and maintains reports and records relating to emergency responses. Prepares an incident report for the locally utilized database management system, using correct codes and categories in the preparation of the report in accordance with locally established guidelines.
Provides statistical data to supervisors. Compiles, collates, and verifies emergency and non-emergency response data generated by or processed through the communications center and enters appropriate information into the local reporting systems.
Requirements
One (1) year of responsible work experience as an emergency or non-emergency dispatcher/call center operator, public safety officer, security, military or healthcare services, or relevant work experience using two-radio communication
Ability to work well under pressure
High School Diploma
Proficiency in standard computer operations, including proficient typing skills
Knowledge of the logs, reports, and filing procedures to perform necessary operator logging and documentation
