Unit and Shift:
The Emergency Department at Duke University Hospital comprises 81 total beds, including 10 Pediatric beds, 47 Adult Monitored beds, 8 Psychiatric beds, 5 Fast Track Beds, 4 Triage beds, 1 Sexual Assault Examiner Room/ 4 Resus Rooms, and a dedicated central telemetry station.
Shift: Full-time three-day schedule of either nights (7 p.m.-7 a.m.) or a rotating night/day.
Job Summary:
As an Experienced RN with Duke University Health System, you will prioritize providing service while caring for the whole person in a patient-centered atmosphere. The experienced RN is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities and utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients guided by the DUHS Professional Practice model, participate in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects, or other health-related projects as assigned. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Adheres to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
Previous work experience (1+ years) as a clinical nurse is required; at least one year of previous work experience as a registered nurse is required
Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program is required. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Preferred:
1 or more years of RN experience in an Emergency Department or Critical Care area.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration:
Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse, OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina, is required.
BLS (or higher) certification required.
Professional specialty certification preferred.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
In this position you will perform responsible fire suppression, rescue, and incident response activities on an assigned shift in the fire department. Firefighters participate in the operations of fire suppression, rescue, incident response, and daily maintenance activities at the fire station.
These activities involve firefighting, performing emergencymedical service response, facility and equipment maintenance, participation in all-hazard incident response as called-upon and multidiscipline cognitive and physical training. Work requires that the employee stay abreast of state-of-the-art fire suppression and rescue procedures, techniques, and equipment and requires the employee to incorporate the necessary changes into in-service training. Ability to make effective decisions under pressure is required in all aspects of emergency response work.
The employee is subject to the hazards associated with incident response work including working in inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold temperatures, loud noise, vibration, moving parts, high heat, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, wearing respirators, and working in close quarters. The employee is also subject to OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens.
Work is performed under regular supervision of the assigned station's Company Officer and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and written reports concerning the quality and effectiveness of work completed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF A FIREFIGHTER:

Testing will occur at the Wake Fire Training Center. There will be two sessions each day with one session at 9 am with the written test followed by the agility test as each person finishes the written test and the second session will be at 1 pm with the written test followed by the agility test as each person finishes the written test. The applicant must pass the written test with a 70% score or better to move onto the agility test. Each test will be graded after completion. More information will be sent to those invited to the written and agility testing.
Senior Firefighter Pumping Practical Exercise: Week of February 23, 2026. Exact dates, times and location to be determined.

Job Summary:
As a Experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with Duke University Health System, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a patient-centered atmosphere. The Experience Registered Nurse(RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities. Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

Part-time Description
Responsibilities:
Ensure the assigned rescue unit is checked and ready for service.
Items to be checked:
All Engine Fluids
All lights to ensure proper working order
All Fire bottles for fullness and readiness
All hand tools are on the unit and in good working condition
Oil Dry have at least 1 5 gallon pale completely full
Respond to all incidents on and off the track as directed.
Extinguish fires/ assist the driver in getting out of the vehicle
Perform flat tows either with the rope or the strap
Inspect the vehicles to be towed for tow points.
Ability to provide quick instruction points for the driver to ride his/her brakes and not run over the tow device in a polite and clear manner.
Assist maintenance department with repairs to barriers as directed.
Last rescue unit on the scene of incident will remain on scene until maintenance is clearing the scene and clear all units with race control, as they leave the racing surface.
Apply Oil Dry as needed for spills on the race surface or the access roads on VIR property.
IF posted on Pit Road ensure you have a fire bottle and it has a full charge.
Keep the rescue units clean at all times including the cab
Wear VIR uniform at all times in a clean and presentable manner
Wear provided and or suggested personal protection equipment
Requirements
Have a good knowledge of power kill switch's and on board extinguisher systems on race vehicles.
Virginia State Firefighter certification

EMT - Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
