ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides patient care in accordance with the hospital's expectations, the Emergency Department Standards and within their scope of practice. Communicates and functions effectively with patients and families in stressful situations. Assists in explanation and documents after care instructions to patients tailored to their individual needs. Maintains adequate levels of supplies and functioning of equipment and demonstrates accountability of all equipment. Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Shows initiative and good judgment. Record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration rate, as directed by medical or nursing staff. Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients' needs. Proactively assist in efficient patient care activities and flow. Sets the patient up to be seen immediately by the physician. Assist in providing discharge instructions and follow up appointments for the patient. Actively participates to support the Emergency Department and keeps current on scope of practice, annual certifications, policies and procedures and departmental changes.
