Qualifications

The Emergency Medical Technician must have at least two (2) years EMS experience and two (2) years of EMS driving experience with a good driving record. It is preferred that the EMT have completed the Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) training course. It is preferred that he/she possess a valid Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) provider card. The Emergency Medical Technician must be able to pass a medical evaluation and a respirator fit test and wear an N95 particulate filter respirator mask in accordance with PEOSHA standards as a condition of employment. Bi-lingual English/Spanish skills preferred. Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred. The Emergency Medical Technician must possess and maintain current and active credentials in good standing (as determined by initial and periodic Primary Source Verification) as follows:

Credential Required:

• Active, valid certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. Certification issued by the National Registry OR states of NJ, PA, NY, DE, MD, VA, WV, or the District of Columbia, or any other member of the Atlantic EMS council. NJ EMT Reciprocity must be obtained within six months of employment.
• Driver's license with NJ driving privileges. Driver's license must be in accordance with the DOT/MVC regulations for the type/size/weight of the vehicle(s) as assigned. Must be an authorized driver approved by Logistical Services.
• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for the Healthcare Provider
• Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100
• National Incident Management System (NIMS) Awareness

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Emergency Medical Technician must be in excellent physical condition, able to work in all weather and environmental conditions, able to lift and move patients in all circumstances. The Emergency Medical Technician must be able to perform all duties consistent with providing BLS in the pre-hospital environment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently and up to 125 lbs. occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Emergency Medical Technician will, on a routine and daily basic, be required to see, hear, smell, speak, sit, walk, lift, drive, and communicate in English both verbally and in writing. In certain situations the Emergency Medical Technician may be required to kneel, crawl, climb or jump. The Emergency Medical Technician may, in rare circumstances, be required to work under austere conditions such as disaster settings, dangerous situations or hazardous environments.

• Graduate of an approved EMT training program and successful completion of the written and practical examination administered by the State certifying agency or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
• Current registration with the state certifying agency and/or the NREMT.
• Able to provide proof of current CPR/BLS training including adults, children and infants.
• Able to provide proof of ACLS and/or PALS training.
• One (1) year experience as an EMT within the past five (5) years or as required by the contracting facility.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Responsible for performing tasks within the scope of his/her educational preparation and knowledge, as permitted under local, state and federal guidelines.
• Able to effectively communicate with clinical and non-clinical individuals.
• Able to read and interpret technical instructions, visually and auditorially assess the patient.
• Able to provide proof of valid driver’s license, if applicable.
• Able to provide proof of valid auto liability insurance if assignment(s) include driving own vehicle.
• Meets applicable health requirements to provide patient care.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort :

• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather under stressful conditions/situations for extended periods of time, with irregular working hours.
• Requires excellent hand-eye coordination, fine motor function necessary to operate equipment and prepare/calibrate medications and solutions.
• Requires normal, correctable vision and hearing, and the ability to accurately discern colors related to job functions.
• Work environment involves frequent exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens and/or potentially infectious or hazardous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment (e.g. face masks, goggles, latex and or non-latex gloves).

**Job Responsibilities:**

Provides instruction as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for emergency medical treatment, limited primary care, force health protection, and evacuation in a variety of operational field and clinical settings from point of injury or illness through the continuum of military health care. Plans, coordinates, and conducts training and related instructional programs to prepare service members in area of expertise. Demonstrates subject matter expertise/mastery of course content requirements and proficiency in the methods and techniques for delivery of instruction. Instructs individuals/teams/units in establishment/reconstitution of Field Hospital section workspace in DEPMEDS environment. Responsible for proper maintenance and accountability of assigned equipment as directed. Maintains currency on latest doctrine and TTPs in associated areas of expertise.

1. Conducts training sessions and may assist in evaluating the effectiveness of training activities.

2. Coordinates instructional support and logistics for instruction/training events, including scheduling classes, reserving classrooms, and preparing workstations.

3. Creates and maintains records of training activities, participant progress, student surveys and assists the training manager with proper training documentation.

4. May assist in the development and establishment of course content and objectives.

5. May update course documentation as needed to ensure timeliness and relevance.

6. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.

7. Participates in special projects as required.

8. Adheres to ethical, behavioral and professional standards.

**Education/Equivalent Training Required:**

RN, LPN or EMT-B qualified.

**Experience:**

Two years of recent military experience with some of that time as a commissioned, warrant, or noncommissioned officer, with RN/LPN/EMT-B AOC/MOS or, civilian equivalent qualification and familiarity with military medical systems.

**Unique/Additional Requirements:**

+ Must have a valid driver's license.

+ Effective communications skills.

+ Computer literate with current Microsoft Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office Systems and possess a working knowledge of current Army automated systems.
