General Job Information MUST CURRENTLY HOLD NATIONAL REGISTRY PARAMEDIC CERTIFICATION This position is in the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DCFEMS). DCFEMS provides fire suppression, technical rescue, fire prevention, education, community risk-reduction, and pre-hospital care and transportation services to the residents and visitors of the District of Columbia. The Department strives to protect life and property. Firefighter Paramedics will work in a fast-paced, innovative, and data driven jurisdiction with unique and high-profile special events related to its status as the Nation's Capital. Firefighter Paramedics will gain tremendous experience while supporting the core mission of the Department and also have the opportunity to apply for positions that focus on unique specialties. Firefighter Paramedics are assigned to one of thirty-three fire houses throughout the District of Columbia. The incumbent will travel primarily by fire suppression unit and medic unit in a prompt and efficient manner in response to calls for emergency incidents. HOW RAPID RESPONSE TECHNICIAN WILL MAKE AN IMPACT Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure. The Rapid Response Technician is assigned tasks by Coordinators related to service orders and repair activities for Category 6 cabling, Voice over IP networks (VOIP), and fiber optic cabling infrastructure. The technician is responsible for dressing, terminating, and testing cables and components. They should have the ability to work with power tools and ladders. Computer literate with basic Networking Skills. Ability to work effectively with others and communicate with supervisors. Interprets service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics. Tests, locates, installs, and repairs cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenance. Verifies work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and information. Verifies service by testing installed cabling, identifying, correcting, or escalating problems. Well-versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs, and fiber power meters. Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications. Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned. Participates in special projects as required. Identify, track, and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards. Dress, terminate, and test cables and components including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling. Ability to work with power tools and ladders. Ability to work well with others and communicate with supervisors. Computer literate with basic Networking Skills. Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) contracts to provide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to venues and facilities within Washington DC. The purpose of this position is to help fulfill these contracts. The position will provide Basic Life Support within the EMT scope of practice to include medical evaluation, treatment, stabilization, and transfer of care to the sick and injured.
