Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**
Nature of Work This is entry-level firefighting work combating, extinguishing and preventing fires and operating and maintaining fire suppression apparatus and equipment. Work requires strenuous physical exertion under adverse conditions such as hazardous materials or cramped surroundings. Employees are also responsible for participating in daily training activities, inspecting and maintaining equipment and apparatus and cleaning and maintaining quarters. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Fire Lieutenant or Captain.
STARTING SALARY:
Firefighter/EMT I $49,370 - $53,561 (starting pay is commensurate with experience from a validated career fire department)
Firefighter/Paramedic $53,561 - $57,753 (starting pay is commensurate with experience from a validated career fire department)
*Firefighter/Paramedic lateral applicants assigned to a BLS unit will receive an additional $3,000 incentive pay annually. *Firefighter/Paramedic lateral applicants assigned to an ALS unit will receive an additional $10,000 incentive pay annually.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants shall be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment.
Employment with the City of Montgomery is conditioned upon the potential employee passing a pre-employment drug test.
(The drug test will require the submission of a sample of hair, finger nails, and/or urine that will verify illegal drug use.)
Must possess a diploma from a high school accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Alabama State Board of Education or possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate. NOTE: A passing GPA from an S.A.C.S. accredited college or university may substitute for the S.A.C.S. accredited high school diploma or GED certificate requirement. This does not include internet colleges or trade school coursework.
Must be of good moral character and have no record of convictions of a misdemeanor or felony involving violence, force, or moral turpitude.
Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a valid Alabama Driver's License upon completion of the 6 month probationary period.
Must pass the Job Task Assessment (JTA)
Must pass a medical exam (in accordance with NFPA 1582)
Must comply with MFR's Tattoo Policy (no tattoos visible past the wrist level and above the collar of t-shirt).
POST-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Beginning on the date of employment, Firefighters are NOT to smoke tobacco products or use smokeless tobacco at ANY time (on or off duty).
Must be available to respond to emergency incidents while off duty when called upon.
Before being assigned to work, hired applicants will complete a paid training program/orientation that lasts approximately 2 weeks.
Employees must complete the MFR physical fitness evaluation (push-ups, sit-ups, run or walk) standards based on age upon completion of 2 week training/orientation program
New hires must complete a six (6) month probationary period.
Minimum Qualifications Firefighter/EMT I applicants: Must have two (2) years of experience in a career fire department and be Alabama Proboard Certified as a Firefighter which includes current Certifications in Firefighter I and II and EMT I Certifications for State of Alabama, and ICS 100, 200, and 700. Firefighter/Paramedic applicants: Must have two (2) years of experience in a career fire department and be Alabama Proboard Certified as a Firefighter which includes current Certifications in Firefighter I and II and must possess a current Paramedics license with the State of Alabama. NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special Requirements Applicants outside of the State of Alabama must contact the Alabama Fire College to obtain AL Proboard Certification before being eligible to apply. EMT Basics and Paramedics must be Nationally Registered and must obtain an Alabama EMT Basic or Paramedic License from the Alabama Department of Public Health. http://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/ems/licensure.html Kind of Examination Applicants will be pre-screened using the application and an applicant's responses to minimum qualifications/willingness questionnaire. * Responsible for calculating and entry of individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration (UF) goal; treatment time; Sodium (Na) modeling; and UF modeling as prescribed.
* Responsible for ensuring appropriate safety alarms are enabled, including Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) 160.
* Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters onto the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet with initial identification.
* Responsible for accurate documentation of information related to patient treatment including completion of Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and, if applicable, progress notes.
* Report any significant information and/or change in patient condition directly to the nurse supervisor.
* Observe patient, and conduct machine safety checks according to facility policy. Report any change or unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
* Perform and document any intervention for unusual patient status and document patients' response to intervention.
* Evaluate patients' vascular access during treatment including arterial and venous monitoring pressures, provide appropriate intervention as needed, document and report any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
* Obtain all prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:
* Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics - ensure all areas are safe and clean.
* Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surface, chair, equipment, and surrounding area between treatments according to facility policy.
* Conduct all tasks necessary for preparation for dialysis treatment and document where appropriate.
* Perform all required pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing including Pressure Holding (PHT).
* Initiate Solution Delivery System (SDS) system.
* Ensure that all blood spills are immediately cleaned with appropriate disinfectant according to facility policy.
* Prepare, organize, and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment to prevent wastage.
CLERICAL & ADMINISTRATIVE:
* Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
* Enters all treatment data into the designated clinical application accurately and in a timely manner.
* Review treatment sheets for completeness, ensure nursing signatures are documented, and ensure omitted entries are completed or corrected where appropriate.
* Prepare initial patient chart for admission and compile paperwork for appropriate placement in chart.
* Prepare lab requisitions for prescribed or stat Lab specimens according to laboratory destination.
* Collect, label, appropriately prepare and store lab samples according required laboratory specifications.
* Ensure collection of lab specimens by appropriate lab courier.
OTHER:
* Perform additional duties as assigned.
ADDENDUM FOR PATIENT CARE TECHNICIANS WORKING IN THE HOME PROGRAMS (NOT HOME ASSIST):
Assisting the HT RN:
* May assist HT RN on Home Visit as directed
* Reinforces PD / HHD education under supervision of qualified HT RN
* Schedules and contacts patients regarding appointments
* Weigh patient and obtain vital signs
* Collect treatment records and review for completion. Notify RN of incomplete / missing records.
* Cleaning and prepping treatment room; prep charts
* Preparing lab tubes and requisitions & assisting with lab draw days both pre and post draw (PCT certified phlebotomy or per state regulations)
* Clerical duties as assigned (faxing, mailing to physician offices etc.)
* Obtain home hemo water sampling as directed by the HT RN
* Set-up of the home hemo machine and PD Cycler.
* Assist with exit site care when directed by HT RN.
* Warm dialysate solution when directed by the HT RN
* Draw dialysate solution for testing as directed by the HT RN
* Creates and sends patient reminders (supply inventory for order, Kt/V collection, bringing meds to clinic visit for review)
* Assembles/breaks down charts/thins charts
* Maintains logs as directed and applicable
* Inventory of Home Program
* Maintains par levels of home department supplies
* Files home patient packing slips/invoices
* Inventory for Patients
* Assists patient with supply management and contacting customer service

There is a two-person assist program and "material assist" devices for the heavier items.
EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS
* Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred.
* Continued employment is dependent on successful completion of the FMCNA dialysis training program and successful completion of CPR certification.

What You Will Do
Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
