    The Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) works with the Director of Ground Transportation and EMT-P as part of the inter-facility transportation service for the Health Care District. Duties include driving the ambulance to transport patients between facilities, offering basic medical support, and working as part of the transport team running BLS calls. Essential Functions: Has a basic understanding of stress response and methods to ensure personal well-being. Has an understanding of body substance isolation. Provide medical care to include but not limited to the National Scope of Practice Model: Opening and maintaining an airway, Ventilating patients, manage general medical complaints of altered mental status, respiratory, cardiac, diabetic, allergic reaction, seizures, and psychological crises. Assisting patients with prescribed medications, including sublingual nitroglycerin, epinephrine auto-injectors and hand-held aerosol inhalers. Administration of oxygen and oral glucose. Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including use of automated external defibrillators. Avoid mishandling and undue haste while working to accomplish the task. Reassuring patients by working in a confident, efficient manner. Lifting the stretcher (be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.) Placing the stretcher in the ambulance and ensuring the patient and stretcher are secured. Assist in lifting and carrying the patient out of the ambulance and into the receiving facility. Reports verbally and in writing any observations or medical care in transit to the receiving facility for purposes of records and diagnostics. Upon request provides assistance to the receiving facility After each transport: Restocks and replaces used linens, blankets and other supplies Cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting and infection control procedures Makes careful check of all equipment so that the ambulance is ready for the next transport Maintains ambulance in efficient operating condition Ensures that the ambulance is clean and washed and kept in a neat, orderly condition In accordance with local, state or federal regulations, decontaminates the interior of the vehicle after transport of patient with contagious infection or hazardous materials exposure Determines that the ambulance is in proper mechanical condition by checking items required by service management. Lead provider on BLS transports. Lead provider on discharges back to residence or skilled nursing facility. During downtime, assist in the Emergency Department at Lakeside Medical Center or other HCDPBC's business units within your scope of practice. Completes daily Ambulance checklist. Maintain all licensure requirements. Attends continuing education and refresher training programs as required. Enter all required incidents and compliments into the Districts Incident Management System. Receive and understand direction, ask questions when appropriate, and manage time to work effectively and independently. Act in a manner that protects the integrity of the mission of the Health Care District. Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes assisting community or hospital based organizations or the Red Cross. Staff will be directed to perform other emergency duties based on clinical experience including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, manmade or natural. Other requirements * Successful completion of USRC training program approved by the Medical Director, including demonstrated competency; this includes successful completion of USRC training course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis within 8 weeks of hire. * CPR certification required within 90 days of hire or as required by the state. * Patient Care Technician certification must be obtained through a state certification program or national commercially available certification program within 18 months of hire date and maintained in good standing thereafter.
