Inspects and promptly reports damage, deficiencies, safety issues or other problems with ambulances, company vehicles, equipment and supplies, or any other matters relevant to the safe, efficient and proper operation of the company; assists with vehicle and equipment maintenance and station maintenance. Participates in public education, public relations, public health safety programs, emergency medical service training, fire training, fire prevention activities, fire suppression, rescue, extrication, hazardous material situations, demonstrations, instructing, and any other activity that would benefit the company, its contracting communities, or the general public. Respond to fire alarms with assigned company; lay and connect hose; maintain pumping apparatus; hold nozzles and direct water streams; raise and climb ladders; ventilate burning structures; enter buildings to evacuate occupants. Operate all types of fire operation and rescue equipment including portable fire extinguishers, pike poles, hand lines, smoke ejectors, salvage covers, forcible entry tools, aerial ladder equipment and emergency medical equipment. Preserve evidence at fire scenes. Perform search and rescue of individuals in hazardous environments including collapsed buildings, auto accidents, hazardous material spills and confined spaces. Attend special instruction in firefighting emergency medical techniques; perform drills with other engine company staff; become familiar with city layout, established response routes and hydrant system; prepare and maintain a variety of firefighting preplan drawings and schematics. Firefighter/Paramedic employees assist in the training of fire department personnel in emergency medical techniques and medical field activities; maintain inventory of drugs and controlled substances. PERIPHERAL DUTIES * Connects appropriate fittings and hose to fire hydrants to establish a water supply, including laying supply/attack lines. * Uses visual, sensory, technical, and judgmental criteria to locate fire sources. * Carries, positions, raises, and climbs portable and aerial ladders. * Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) while performing firefighting tasks (e.g.; hose line operations, extensive crawling, lifting and carrying heavy objects, ventilating roofs or walls using power or hand tools, forcible entry), rescue operations, and other emergency response actions under stressful conditions, including working in extremely hot or cold environments for prolonged periods. * Utilizes extrication tools (cutting/spreading, etc.). * Utilizes cribbing in vehicle extractions and collapse situations. * Locates and removes individuals and victims from fire and emergency situations. * May utilize specialized equipment such as ropes, harnesses, boats, and exposure suits. * Performs daily inspections of required equipment. * Performs immediate lifesaving procedures required by circumstances; stabilizes patients and transports them to local emergency facilities. * Ensures compliance with local and state codes and nationally recognized good practices and standards. * Have a working knowledge of the occupancies within the fire departments response area. Delivers public fire education programs, tours, lectures, etc., as may be necessary to ensure public fire safety. * Completes written and verbal reports on patient care. * Interacts appropriately with patients, families, police, and co-workers. * Completes patient care reports, NFIRS incident reports, work orders, hydrant reports, inspection forms, medical records, etc. * Participates in company drills and department training as needed or required. The requirements listed below are necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. * Minimum 18 years of age. * A High School diploma or equivalent is required. * A valid, state-issued driver's license at time of hire is required. * Wisconsin Firefighter I certification at the time of application is required. * Possession of a valid Wisconsin Certified Emergency Medical Technician-Basic license at the time of application is required. These duties may include both direct and indirect care, based on the PCT's skill set, training, and the specific needs of the department. The PCT plays an integral role in supporting the patient care team and assisting in a fast-paced perioperative ambulatory surgical center. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with patient care by performing tasks such as vital sign monitoring, rooming patients, and assisting with patient admissions. Collect patient specimens. Assist patients with mobility, including guiding them to the bathroom and helping get them to their vehicle. Ensure patient and family members comfort. Maintain a clean and well-organized environment to ensure a safe and comfortable atmosphere for patients. Facilitate patient flow within the center and assist with any required documentation or data collection. Communicate effectively with patients and other healthcare staff to ensure coordinated care. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment, in the perioperative department. Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient care. Ability to work well under the supervision of a registered nurse and as part of a healthcare team. Prior experience of training in patient care, vital signs, or other healthcare support roles is preferred. Recognizes and completes unit and patient care needs with minimal direct supervision. REQUIREMENTS: * Graduate of a Patient Care Tech program preferred * At least one year prior related experience in assisting with care of patients * Current American Heart Assn. * BLS certificate Required.
