Drives ambulance in response to emergency calls; requests additional resources for the control of incidents as required; and ensures safety at the scene.
Provides basic life support and emergency care to the sick and injured; assesses nature of any trauma; determines nature and extent of injuries and illnesses and assists in making decisions regarding proper courses of action; assists in lifting and carrying patients in and out of ambulance; and transports patients to appropriate medical facility.
Performs such procedures as immobilization and bandaging, wound treatment, control of bleeding, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), opening airways, taking and interpreting vital signs, cardiac activity monitoring, oxygen administration and other procedures as permitted according to certification; maintains constant awareness of patient condition; identifies and relays diagnostic signs to medical personnel while in route to medical facility; and reports verbally and in writing to emergency room personnel upon arrival.
Assists with extrication and other rescue procedures as necessary.
Notifies dispatch personnel and Coroner's Office in the case of patient death; arranges for the protection of property and evidence at the scene.
Prepares run reports to document patient care, response time, compliance with medical protocol and patient billing information.
Cleans and decontaminates vehicles and equipment; and notifies proper personnel of equipment/vehicle maintenance needs.
Assists in stocking supplies in station and ambulances as needed.
Performs all work in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, medical/emergency protocols and standards of quality and safety.
Performs general housekeeping duties as required.
Receives and responds to public inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance in areas of responsibility.
Performs general clerical work as required including, but not limited to, preparing reports, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, answering the telephone, etc.
Keeps abreast of new technology, methods and regulations for emergency medical assistance operations; attends meetings, training and continuing education classes as required and/or appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills and maintain certifications.
May need to be available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, for emergency response as assigned.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED supplemented by education in emergency medical technology or a closely related field.
Requires at least six (6) months of related work experience.
Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid state driver's license.
Must complete required coursework and maintain South Carolina and National Registry of EMT's certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) and Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals (PEPP) certifications; obtain any other certifications deemed necessary by Department Head.
All EMT's and Paramedics will be required to obtain a Class E Non-Commercial Driver's License within two months of their date of hire and as a condition to being released as the second person on an ambulance crew. Applicants under 21 years of age will be required to have two years of driving experience with a valid driver's license and no driver's license points assessed in the last 24 months. Applicants over 21 years of age must have less than 4 driver's license points assessed in the last 24 months and no reckless driving or driving while impaired convictions within the last 5 years.

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic will support the delivery of a comprehensive range of medical services. The EMT Paramedic will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. at DOS, and provide care to DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The candidate will provide advanced medical care and support during emergency situations, including assessment, treatment, and transportation of patients. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, the ability to work in high-pressure environments, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to emergency calls and assess patients' medical conditions.
Coordinate and supervise EMTs within scope of practice.
Performs in support of field emergency situations; Intravenous (IV) line insertions, venous blood draws, intraosseous (IO) access, intubation, medication administration, and 12-lead electrocardiogram with interpretation, and knowledge of a wide range of emergency medications.
Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments within the licensed scope of practice.
Assessment and documentation of the patient's vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, prescribed medications and care administered.
Maintains supply inventory by checking stock to determine sufficient inventory levels; anticipating needed items.
Restocking clinical and provider areas.
Crosstrain to work within in the clinics, emergency room, and inpatient units.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents; provide appropriate services as required including emergency rescue and fire suppression; perform search and rescue for trapped or injured persons; perform emergency medical and first aid services as needed; prepare reports regarding emergency incidents as assigned. * Drive emergency apparatus and/or operate fire apparatus on emergency calls or at an incident. * Operate, test, and maintain numerous types of rescues, emergency, and fire suppression equipment and apparatus as necessary. * Participate in cleaning and maintaining facilities, grounds, equipment, and apparatus; ensure that appropriate conditions are maintained at assigned facility; ensure that all equipment and apparatus is in a constant state of readiness for emergency calls. * Participate in a variety of fire prevention operations, activities and programs including training, code enforcement and equipment operation and maintenance. * Participate in activities and operations in response to natural disasters, major accidents, incidents involving hazardous materials, and other emergency situations; identify, analyze, and mitigate hazardous and dangerous situations. * Respond to a variety of hazardous materials incidents; to perform defensive or offensive activities which will be dependent upon levels of certification in accordance with state and federal regulations; maintain a level of knowledge and training based on certification level. * Pre-planning activities: study street and occupancy locations in assigned district; study building plans and fire prevention systems in buildings in assigned district. * Participates in conducting routine building inspections for life & fire safety violations following the parameters of the department inspection program. * Assist with transportation of patients to medical care facilities; evaluate the condition of patients and assess pertinent information about medical profile and injuries; conduct patient assessments and treatment in accordance with established protocols and license level; maintain contact with medical facility to prepare for patient arrival. * Operate EMS vehicle and related equipment; clean and maintain supplies, materials, and equipment aboard EMS vehicles; submit requisitions for additional materials and supplies. * Prepare emergency medical incident reports regarding patient and incident May be required to complete and upload patient care reports. * Use departmental computer equipment to input, review and access records, information, and other various data. * Give tours of assigned facility, demonstrate fire equipment and apparatus, and participate in other educational programs for various groups and general public pertaining to a variety of life safety topics. * Instructs CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS); * Administer BLS and ALS Care to sick or injured persons in prehospital the setting; * Administer drugs, orally, nasally, rectally, intravenously, or by injection; * Maintains equipment on medic unit, to include pre-hospital drugs; * Ensures all pre-hospital drug quantities are correct and the medications are in date; * Responsible for the narcotics on the assigned unit, to include their security, and the tracking of their administration and use; * Serves as back up to co-workers; * Any additional duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * High School Diploma or GED. * Valid Paramedic certification. * Firefighter I required (NFPA 1001 compliant curriculum completion/certification). * Firefighter II preferred (NFPA 1001 compliant curriculum completion/certification). * Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Basic Life Support Provider certifications. * Valid Driver's License with a safe driving record. Obtain South Carolina license within 30 days of relocation. * Must obtain Class E license within one-year from date of hire. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS * Departmental testing may be administered during interview; * Subject to psychological and physical health screenings; * Subject to criminal background check; * Subject to drug and alcohol testing; and * Must obtain NR-EMT-P certification required within one year from date of hire; * Considered emergency essential position and subject to report to work during any declared emergency situations(s); * Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within one-year from date or hire; * Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) certification required within one-year from date of hire; * Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification required within one-year from date of hire; * EMS Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) certification required within one-year from date of hire; * National Incident Management System certifications required (ICS 100, 200,700, 800) completed within 60 days of hire. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is heavy and requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed in the field during emergency situations. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, inclement weather conditions, fire, heat and toxic gases. The work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles or gloves. MENTAL DEMANDS Frequently requires time pressures, emergency situations, frequent change of tasks, irregular schedule/overtime, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working closely with others as part of a team, tedious or exacting work, and noisy/distracting environment.
