Job Summary and Qualifications
The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.

JOB OPPORTUNITY 01.05.2026 Job Title: Full-time Probationary Firefighter EMT-Basic
Harris County Emergency Services District No. 17 (“HCESD17” or “District”) is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Full-time Probationary Firefighter EMT-Basic.
Established in 1942, The Little York Fire Department (“Department”) has a long history of service
to the community and continues to grow and develop into one of the best Departments in the
industry. The Department services residents in Harris County in twenty-six (26) square miles on the
north side of Houston, serving both commercial and residential areas. The population served by the
district is approximately 100,000. The typical call volume per year is around 3,600 calls and we
maintain four (4) staffed stations.
Responsibilities:
Under the Direction of their assigned Captain, the Full-time Probationary Firefighter EMT-B will be
assigned to work a 48/96 schedule and will be responsible for fire and emergency incidents,
providing fire suppression, emergencymedical services, and rescue operations as needed. The
Firefighter will carry out daily operations, ensuring station and equipment readiness, public
education programs, pre-fire plan surveys, station maintenance, and equipment and apparatus checks.
The Firefighter will receive direction from their company officer, through the organizational chain
of command. During their time as a Probationary Firefighter, they will be focusing on passing all
levels of Phase Training.
Phase Training:
The Probationary Firefighter EMT-B will have (1) one year to complete the (4) four sections of
Phase Training directed by the Divisional Chief of Training. Each section takes approximately (90)
ninety days to complete and covers such topics as standards and grooming, PPE, SOG guidelines,
Field Training Officers, and primary skills. If the Firefighter has (4) years of continuous fire
service and is commissioned, they may qualify for the Phase Training Fast Track Program and can
complete in as little as (4) four months.
Essential Job Functions:
These include, but are not limited to the following:
• Observe and follow safety rules and regulations including wearing safety apparel and devices
during the course and scope of job-related duties. Report all unsafe activities to shift officers
immediately.
• Respond to calls for service, including fire, medical, fire alarms, hazardous material
incidents, rescue and other specialized calls as dictated (i.e. swift water rescue, high angle
rescue, confined space, vehicle extraction).
• Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with the districts policies, procedures,
standard operating guidelines (“SOG's”), or any other issued rules.
• Respond to and render assistance to other departments or agencies.
• Treat sick or injured patients and all community members with dignity and respect.
• Ventilate buildings during fire operations.
• Conduct salvage and overhaul operations.
• Required to maintain physical fitness to perform all duties and pass yearly NFPA-1582
screening.
• Inspect equipment and apparatus for readiness and notify shift officer of any defects or
maintenance issues found.
• Maintain knowledge of apparatus and equipment, including driving and operations.
• Inspect, clean, and restock equipment and supplies daily, to ensure all emergencies can be
handled.
• Make minor repairs and perform routine maintenance to equipment and apparatus keeping records as
necessary.
• Keep stations, equipment, and grounds clean and orderly at all times.
• Participate in all training, (physical and CE) as dictated and maintain member in good standing
policy.
• Assist with public and civic relation events and other customer service-based expectations as
defined by the District.
• Participate in pre-fire planning of target hazards in the district.
• Enter necessary information into records management systems, as needed.
• Maintain regular attendance and required certifications.
• Report to work on time and prepared to perform daily tasks.
• Report to work free from the effect of illegal drugs or alcohol and free from impairment due to
prescription drugs.
Required Abilities:
Possess Good Computer Skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Department specific software.
Customer Service - Demonstrate ability to provide extraordinary customer service and satisfaction.
Communication - Communicate effectively, including ability to understand, receive and give
direction, information, and ideas both verbally and in writing. Prepare and submit reports. Use

language.
Organizational Skills - Self-motivation, working under pressure, attention to detail, setting
goals, time management.
Requirements, Qualifications and Certifications:
At time of hire, and to be maintained thereafter:
• Possess a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record and be able to legally
drive an emergency vehicle.
• Possess a current certification as a Basic Firefighter by Texas Commission on Fire Protection
(“TCFP”).
• Hold minimum current certification as an EMT-Basic by the Texas Department of Health and
Services or National Registry (“NREMT”).
• Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications.
• Pass the Physical Agility Test (“PAT”), Medical Exam, Drug Testing, and Background Check
provided by the District.
• Pass the Motor Vehicle Record Check (MVR)- Ongoing Requirement
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Pass a written exam.
• High School Diploma or GED.
Within one (1) year of hire:
• Pass the yearly NFPA-1582 screening provided by HCESD17 - Ongoing requirement.

At one (1) year of hire or before:
• Complete all phase training.
Work Environment:
This position will spend approximately 65% of the time in a Fire Station, 25% of the time at Fire
or EMS calls and 10% of the time in a training field setting. The Firefighter is subject to all
weather conditions including extreme heat or winter temperatures. The Firefighter will also operate
in immediately dangerous to life (“IDLH”) environments. All employees of the Department will be
exposed to loud sounds, flashing lights and all-weather types.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to:
• Lift 50 lbs.
• Drag 180 lbs.
• Sit and stand for 8-24 hours
• Operate on supplied air and function in a self-contained breathing apparatus (“SCBA”).
• Physically fit enough not to impede fire suppression or rescue operations at emergency
scenes.
• Work 48-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends and holidays when scheduled.
• Stand, walk, swim, climb lift and bend on a daily basis.

How you will contribute
* You will determine donor eligibility; to include, proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
* You will evaluate donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medicalemergencies including the development of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
* You will refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
* You will support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
* You will manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
* You can be a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations associated with pandemic threats within the local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.

* High school diploma or equivalent to including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements

The EMT-B will utilize their knowledge and proficiency of evidenced-based medical practice and International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. protocols to manage unexpected and emergent situations and treat a variety of injuries and illnesses in a prompt and professional manner. The EMT will support the provision of direct and indirect medical care to patients in emergent situations and will competently function as a member of the team to provide patient centered medical care in the pre-hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide pre-hospital emergencymedical care of simple and multiple system traumas.
Assist the Paramedic in determining the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishing priorities for required emergency care.
Assist the Paramedic in rendering emergencymedical care to all patients.
Operate all emergency vehicles as the primary driver with due diligence for the safety of others.
Restocking EMS units once supplies are received as well as assisting other clinic operators with restocking.
Maintain equipment, tools, and protective clothing in a serviceable ready-response condition.
Performs other duties and assignments as required.
Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications
Required Skills and Knowledge:

Key Responsibilities
