Position Overview: We are seeking a qualified and flexible locum contractor to support our surgical department in Flagstaff, AZ, from May 12 to September 7. This contract offers approximately 40 hours per week, with shifts assigned randomly via a scheduling tool (shift requests cannot be accommodated). Travel, malpractice, lodging, and car rental expenses will be fully covered.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide surgical support across multiple specialties, including ortho, general, spine, neuro, and more.
Assist with anesthesia support as needed (Cerner and SaAnesthesia EMR systems are in use).
Ensure patient safety and support the surgical team in maintaining a sterile, efficient environment.
Adapt to varying shift times and assignments.
Shift Details:
Shifts will be assigned randomly (requests for specific shifts cannot be made). Available shifts are:

Requirements:
Availability to work approximately 40 hours per week between May 12 and September 7.
Flexibility to adapt to randomly assigned shifts.
Prior experience in a surgical or anesthesia support role preferred.
Familiarity with Cerner and SaAnesthesia EMR systems is an asset.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

Your Responsibilities as Dispensing Nurse:
* Work under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor, Medical Director, and Clinic Director while maintaining professional standards of care.
* Prepare and administer medication as ordered by the Medical Director or Program Physician accurately and in a timely manner.
* Document medication administration and nursing care in patient records promptly and accurately, including notes on progress and activities.
* Ensure the safekeeping and accurate inventory of all medication stock and records as required by the DEA, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.
* Maintain precise accounting of all medication received from suppliers and dispensed to patients.
* Dedicate approximately 90% of work hours to medication administration activities; the remaining time may be assigned to other duties by the Medical or Clinic Director.
* Conduct and process urine and/or blood samples, read test results, complete intake assessments, and assist in monitoring patient outcomes.
* Complete all documentation associated with these procedures accurately and in compliance with clinic standards.
* Depending on clinic needs, may be required to transport medication to other locations or work on a CTC Mobile Unit.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation for roles at Chula Vista CTC varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Your Education, Skills and Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (LPN/LVN)
Prefer 1 year of nursing experience in behavioral health, outpatient treatment program, or addiction recovery field.

Ability to operate, monitor, and maintain medical equipment safely and effectively.

Preferred Experience:
* Previous nursing experience in addiction recovery or behavioral health settings, such as outpatient, residential, or correctional facilities, is highly preferred but not required.
* Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), including the safe handling, administration, and documentation of methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone.
* Experience in medication dispensing, monitoring patient dosing, and observing for adverse reactions or medication interactions.
* Understanding of nursing best practices related to substance use treatment, including trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
* Accurate and timely documentation of medication administration records (MARs), patient vitals, and incident reports in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
* Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., DEA, 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA, and Joint Commission standards) related to controlled substances and patient care.
* Proven ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, counselors, case managers, and support staff, to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.

* Current LVN license in the state of California
* Current CPR certification where required by state regulation.

Label specimens for laboratory examinations and follow up by using CHCS/AHLTA or calling the laboratory for reports.

Instruct patients on how equipment is used such as oxygen, suction, cardiac monitor, and pulse oximeter. Instruct patients and family on use of prescribed medications, contraindications of medications, and the necessity of proper follow-up care.
Provide emotional support to patients and families.
Ensure necessary supplies are available and equipment is in functioning order.
Provide an orderly, clean, and safe environment for patients and staff.
Handle telephone information requests with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for patient confidentiality. Receive information and distribute messages, as necessary.
Ensure maintenance and assists with re-supply of pharmaceuticals in the clinic.
Ensure upkeep and perform checks of emergency equipment i.e., oxygen, emergency cart, suction apparatus, etc. and maintain appropriate logs. Inform the Charge Nurse of any discrepancy on daily checks.
Perform additional duties within the scope of LPN practice including but not limited to, update of Standards of Nursing Care, and other LPN/LVN duties required for efficient, quality patient care.
Transport patients to and from other areas of the facility to include hospital clinics and ancillary departments, as ordered by the physician.
Assist the professional nurse and/or physician with individual, group, and family health instruction in relation to the patient's condition and his/her ability for selfcare. Assist in the dissemination of appropriate literature dealing with subjects related to the particular health problems involved.
Assist in providing physical and psychological support to patients, assist in the explanation of procedures and treatment, and promote cooperation among staff, patients, and families.
Participate in executing the Emergency Preparedness Plan (drills and actual emergencies) as scheduled by the MTF (typically semiannually).
Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
Participate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed by government supervisor.
Participation shall include, but not be limited to, appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reporting.
Attend and/or comply with all annual training classes required by the Command, to include but not limited to online annual training provided by the MTF, disaster
training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, Chemical,
Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE), and all other required training.
Actively participate in the command's Performance Improvement Program. Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist.
Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.

Attend and participate in various meetings as directed by government supervisor.

On an An Average Day you Will:

Complete an initial, comprehensive and ongoing comprehensive assessment of patient and family to determine hospice needs
Provide a complete physical assessment and history of current and previous illness(es)
Provide professional nursing care by utilizing all elements of the nursing process
Assess and evaluate patient's status by:
Writing and initiating plan of care
Regularly re-evaluating patient and family/caregiver needs
Participating in revising the plan of care, as necessary
Initiate the plan of care and make necessary revisions as patient status and needs change
Use health assessment data to determine nursing diagnosis
Develop a care plan that establishes goals, based on nursing diagnosis
Include the patient and the family in the planning process
Record pain/symptom management and changes/outcomes as appropriate
Communicate with the physician regarding the patient's needs and report changes in the patient's condition; obtain/receive physicians' orders, as required
Teach the patient and family/caregiver self-care techniques, as appropriate
Work in concert with the interdisciplinary group

Requirements:
Must have at least one (1) year of acute care experience in an institutional setting
One (1) year of experience in home care preferred
Must have a current licensure in the state
Must understand the philosophy of hospice concept and understand needs of the terminally ill
Must be flexible in work hours
Must demonstrate nursing skills per competency checklist
Must demonstrate a willingness to maintain comprehensive working knowledge regarding information systems and applicable software programs
Ability to travel throughout the Bristol Hospice Service Area
