Job Summary and Qualifications

Rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure your voice is heard on suggestions for patient care and surgical workflow improvement
On-call is required during select non-business hours
What you will do in this role:
Evaluate patients prior to surgery
Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process
Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy
Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team consisting of the provider(s), surgeons, surgical technologists and more
Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pediatric Inpatient Registered Nurse
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain using the appropriate pain scale based on the patient's age and developmental stage. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
Ability to perform glucometer testing (point-of-care testing), read and take appropriate action on glucometer test results per Clinical Laboratory's and the patient care unit's policies and procedures
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
Provides patient care in a patient and family-centered manner.
Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the weight/age of the patient and their clinical condition.
Follow the five 5 medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors.
Provides age appropriate education based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning to both patients and families.
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services and treatments requiring technical and manual skills within scope of practice and per policy.
