Learn how you can start or jumpstart your career with us. The Kapton team is seeking a Manufacturing Technology Engineer at the Circleville, Ohio facility-30 miles south of Columbus, Ohio. This role will work with a diverse team of engineers, operators, and mechanics to provide technical expertise and strategic direction to improve our competitive advantage for the manufacturing of Kapton Polyimide Films. The Kapton facilities consist of polymer manufacturing, solvent distillation and extraction, film casting, and numerous converting operations such as coating, heat treatment, and slitting. The Circleville site has a wide variety of on-site engineering disciplines such as R&D and project engineering, in addition to the 30+ engineers in the Kapton Manufacturing Technology department. The Circleville site is a short drive from Columbus, OH, a growing city that is currently the 14th largest in the nation. This proximity to Columbus allows either urban or rural living; great for families and single living. The area offers many museums and arts-scene experiences, professional and collegiate sports, and has several highly ranked golf courses and state/metro parks for the outdoor enthusiast. The Manufacturing Technology Engineer role will work to upgrade processes and products that may range from incremental improvements to major technology changes. A primary focus is to improve process efficiency, quality, process safety, yield, plant capacity and Overall Equipment Effectiveness. You will work with both remote (Jupiter, FL) and local teams (Evendale, OH).Job Description Key Responsibilities Mechanical Systems Ownership (Concept to Qualification): Lead mechanical system architecture, requirements flow-down, and verification plans for lube systems, bearings, and limited-life components from trade studies through qualification test. Lubrication Systems: Define system requirements; size pumps, jets, passages; select fluids; design scavenge and filtration; complete thermal management analyses; and own FMEAs and fault response strategies. Bearing Design: Architect bearing selections and life calculations; establish preload, fits, lubrication regimes; support rotordynamic and thermal analyses; validate via rig or engine testing and data correlation. Limited-Life Engine Design: Develop design rules and margins tailored to mission profiles; set inspection/retirement intervals; drive affordability and manufacturability for targeted life limits while safeguarding safety. Analysis and Validation: Execute and review hand-calcs and model-based analyses (rotordynamics, tribology, CFD/thermal, reliability); plan and oversee rig/engine testing; define qualification criteria and evidence. Integration and V&V: Lead requirements management, DFMEA/FMECA and traceability; ensure interfaces with airframe, controls, and manufacturing are robust; resolve non-conformances and execute RCCA. Standards and Compliance: Apply relevant aerospace, safety, and export control requirements; define design standards and best practices; ensure configuration control and documentation quality. Program Execution: Build schedules, manage risks, and drive deliverables across design gates; support supply-chain and supplier technical management; contribute to proposals, ROMs, and design-to-cost tradeoffs. Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements across design, analysis, and test workflows; mentor early-career engineers; promote a culture of safety, quality, and learning following FLIGHT DECK standards. Required Qualifications Education/Experience: BS in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering (MS preferred) with at least 3 years' experience in turbomachinery or small propulsion systems; demonstrated ownership from concept to qualification. Technical Depth: Expertise in lubrication systems and bearing design for high-speed rotating machinery; proficiency with rotor dynamics, tribology, thermal analysis, and reliability engineering. Leadership & Communication: Proven technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, supplier engagement, and clear communication of technical decisions, risks, and trade study outcomes. Quality: First-time-right design reviews; qualification evidence fully meeting requirements with minimal re-test. Delivery: On-time execution of design gates, test readiness, and qualification milestones. Cost: Achieve design-to-cost targets through smart architecture choices, supplier optimization, and limited-life strategy. Role Interfaces Internal: Systems, thermal/fluids, structures, rotor dynamics, controls, manufacturing, test & instrumentation, reliability. External: Suppliers (bearings, pumps, filters, seals), customers/airframers, regulatory/standards bodies as applicable. This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college. A minimum of 3 years of experience in materials application, processing, or development. This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance Desired Characteristics Literate in current office software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.). Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Existing DoD Security Secret Clearance. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
