In this exciting new role as a Systems Engineer in Elyria, OH, you'll be responsible for shaping and guiding the mechanical and product-level system architecture across new product development (NPD) initiatives in partnership with category engineering teams. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that actively shapes early concepts, evaluates tradeoffs, and influences real design decisions. Working across product categories and with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you'll identify subsystem requirements, define mechanical interfaces, align cross-functional stakeholders, and establish strategies for subsystem reuse and design methodology standardization. You'll collaborate with the Electrical Systems Architect and other shared-service teams, most notably Industrial Design, to enable cohesive, user-centered, technically robust product architectures. Your impact will be immediate and lasting - helping deliver solutions pros trust! **In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:** **System Architecture & Requirements Definition** + Define the initial, critical, and detailed mechanical system architecture for new products. + Establish system-level and subsystem-level mechanical requirements based on product-level requirements that guide design, integration, and verification. + Identify required subsystems (structural, thermal, motion, safety, packaging, sealing, etc.) and specify the performance and interface requirements for each. **Subsystem Strategy & Reuse** + Identify opportunities to leverage common mechanical subsystems, components, and design methodologies across product categories. + Lead efforts to develop and maintain reusable subsystem libraries, best-practice templates, and standard interface definitions. + Evaluate tradeoffs between bespoke design and platform reuse based on performance, cost, manufacturability, and NPD speed. **Cross-Functional Technical Collaboration** + Collaborate closely with the Electrical Systems Architect to develop holistic product-level technical architectures and ensure mechanical-electrical-software coherence. + Partner with Industrial Design to align mechanical architecture with user experience, ergonomics, form factor, aesthetic intent, and brand consistency. + Engage Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Product Management, and Service to ensure mechanical architecture decisions are viable, scalable, and aligned with business needs. **NPD Process Enablement & Technical Leadership** + Work with Lead/Principal Engineers on category teams to ensure projects start with clear, intentional, and complete product requirements. + Facilitate architectural reviews focused on early alignment, risk identification, and integration readiness. + Provide early identification of technical risks and guide research, prototyping, or analysis activities needed to de-risk architectures in collaboration with the Lead Engineer. + Monitor mechanical architecture implementation across projects and ensure learnings feed continuous improvement. **Technology Evaluation & Innovation** + Evaluate emerging mechanical technologies, materials, and design approaches for potential application in future products. + Drive innovation in mechanical integration, miniaturization, motion systems, sealing strategies, structural solutions, and other domain-relevant areas. **Who You Are:** You create teamwork allowing others across the organization to achieve shared objectives. Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project. Leverage prior engineering experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule & budget constraints. Implement plans with guidance to meet technical requirements of assigned projects. Develop action plans with guidance to respond to significant issues or developments. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical or Instrumentation from an accredited college or university Minimum of 3 years' experience in design engineering Minimum of 3 years' hands-on experience with the development and productization of advanced measurement systems. Desired Characteristics: Relevant experience or interest in multiple electrical engineering disciplines like signal processing, data acquisition hardware, circuit design (analog and digital), embedded electrical systems and system integration. An advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university. In-depth knowledge of sensor technology, in particular pressure and temperature measurements. General knowledge of aerodynamics will be a big plus. Familiarity with mechanical design and exposure to CAD tools like NX will be desirable. Passionate about learning and integrating electrical and mechanical systems would be beneficial. Strong interest in driving customer requirements, vendor discussions and down selection, lab testing, design reviews, field demos, and possible certification testing. Experience using modeling including Ansys, Allegro Sigrity or similar multi-physics simulation. Lab experience using design-of-test and troubleshooting tools. Experience working with component suppliers and manufacturers. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to influence others and lead small teams. Experience developing systems to operate in harsh environments. This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
