Reporting to the Nurse Manager, Medical Surgical Nursing Unit, the Lead PatientCareTechnician (PCT) plays a vital role in ensuring high quality patientcare within the acute care setting. This position provides direct patientcare and serves as a resource for PCT's and nursing staff. The lead PCT supports a unit with medically complex patients, including those requiring telemetry monitoring, EKG's, Falls precautions and Pressure Injury prevention. This individual will also take a leadership role in optimizing workflows, ensuring best practices in patientcare, be an active member of the UBC and fostering teamwork across the unit. All Lead PCT responsibilities are performed under the supervision of the MS Registered Nurse.
Minimum Qualifications
* Education
o High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
* Experience
o 3 years of acute care hospital experience preferred.
* Licensure and/or Certification
o BLS healthcare provider required.
* Skills
o Ability to take vitals.

ABOUT THE Medical Surgical/Med Surge Float Pool DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER
The Med/Surge Float RNs provide 24/7 clinical excellence for med/surge and IMCU areas. The team consists of approximately 70 RN staff with diverse clinical expertise. Nurses must be flexible and versatile. They enjoy the challenge of the variety of experiences that the float pool provides. Float pool nurses care for medical and surgical adult and pediatric (over 15) populations as well as the IMCU patient population after specialized classes and training, and Patients in the Observation unit. Float pool nurses rise to the challenge of opening and staffing surge units when necessary. Working in the float pool hones your med-surge skills and provides a clinical overview of BMC that is unparalleled in any other med/surge area.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a PatientCareTechnician in MedSurg, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our PatientCareTechnicians provide direct clinical and support services. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patientcare interventions for patients in the MedSurg department and their families.
Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.

ABOUT THE Medical Surgical/Med Surge Float Pool DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER
The Med/Surge Float RNs provide 24/7 clinical excellence for med/surge and IMCU areas. The team consists of approximately 70 RN staff with diverse clinical expertise. Nurses must be flexible and versatile. They enjoy the challenge of the variety of experiences that the float pool provides. Float pool nurses care for medical and surgical adult and pediatric (over 15) populations as well as the IMCU patient population after specialized classes and training, and Patients in the Observation unit. Float pool nurses rise to the challenge of opening and staffing surge units when necessary. Working in the float pool hones your med-surge skills and provides a clinical overview of BMC that is unparalleled in any other med/surge area.
POSITION SUMMARY:
As a PatientCareTechnician in MedSurg, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our PatientCareTechnicians provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families. You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patientcare interventions for patients in the MedSurg department and their families.
* Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
* Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the MedSurg department.
* Contribute to the efficient operation of the MedSurg department ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
* A high school diploma or GED certificate
* Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
* Ability to pass clinical competency testing
* Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
* Basic math and computer proficiency
* One of the following:
One year of previous experience as a PatientCareTechnician in an acute hospital setting
Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
Completed an approved PatientCareTechnician training
Completed an approved certified medical assistant training
One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
* Fluency in another language a plus
* Previous medical/surgical experience preferred

Performs patientcare-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding if necessary.
Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
Communicates with nursing staff in an effective and timely manner around issues related to patientcare and patient condition.
Fosters a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth.

Job Summary
Summary
Responsible for monitoring and accessing Sleep Lab quality, policies and procedures, staff and equipment performance. Communicates and educates patients and families regarding sleep disorders and treatments. Consults with referring physicians regarding patient results.

Essential Functions
* Performs polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting, including oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure titrations
* Scores studies and formulates reports for physician interpretation. Documents all pertinent patient events according to department policy
* Communicates instructions, results, and relative information to patients, physicians, and family members
* Calibrates and performs routine and troubleshooting maintenance on equipment; notifies proper personnel for equipment problems; cleans all equipment ensuring infection control
* Consults with physicians regarding patient studies as needed
* Maintains standards for completeness of quality improvement and quality control measurements
* May establish and implement performance improvements including education and staff development

Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent required and Associate's Degree Health Sciences preferred

Polysomnography Tech experience with multiple patient populations 1-2 years preferred
