Addison J. Comstock founded Adrian in 1825.
The first religious group to organize in Adrian were the Methodists in 1830, followed the next year by the Baptists.
In 1837, the Raisin Institute was established in Adrian.
The Sisters of saint Dominic built Adrian's first hospital in 1885.
In 1910, William K. Bixby donated $25,000 for the establishment of the Emma L. Bixby Hospital.
In 1919, Siena Heights College was established by the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
In 1954, Eugene Olson, a local industrialist, offered to donate land for the new hospital.
The Fisk-Palmer wing was added in 1965, which included an unfinished third floor for future expansion.
The need for expansion came quickly and the unfinished third floor was completed in 1967.
In 1968, a critical care unit was added.
A new lobby and laboratory were added, and the emergency and radiology departments were expanded in 1979.
In 1989, the Merillat family provided a gift to expand the surgical facilities by adding surgical suites and expanded pre-op and recovery areas.
A gift from the Hickman family funded the Hickman Cancer Center, which opened its doors in 1991.
The first took place in 1996 when Bixby Hospital, together with Herrick Memorial Hospital in Tecumseh, came together to form the Lenawee Health Alliance.
