Job Description
The Physician Coding Educator provides education in coding and billing compliance to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and clinical service auxiliary providers to improve the workflow and promote overall clinical documentation improvement. Creates communication of important coding and billing information for administrative and finance leaders as it relates to their areas. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for a faculty level position in pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center provides a rich and collaborative environment for basic, clinical, and translational research and boasts a diverse faculty. The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program is one of the largest pediatric BMT programs in the country, performing more than 80 lifesaving BMTs in 2024. The BMT program is an integral component of the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, and currently includes 12 faculty members, with a broad range of basic, clinical and translational research.
Qualified candidates should be Board Certified/Eligible Hematologist/Oncologists, and preference will be given to applicants who wish to continue a career focused on clinical care in transplantation and cellular therapy. This is a clinical position, and research commitment is flexible depending on the candidate's qualifications. Rank of assistant or associate professor will depend on experience and accomplishments.
About the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center
The successful candidate will join one of the strongest pediatric hematology/oncology programs in the country.
* In 2024, the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center was ranked No. 12 in the nation for Pediatric Cancer by US News and World Report
* Each year our team cares for more than 170 newly diagnosed leukemia and lymphoma patients using a variety of treatment protocols, including blood and marrow transplant (BMT), hematopoietic stem cell transplant, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T therapy, and Phase I and II clinical trials for patients whose cancer has relapsed or is not responding to treatment
* The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center has over 130 faculty and nearly 50 Advance Practice Providers (APPs), conducting basic, translational, cooperative group and investigator-initiated clinical research related to pediatric oncology and hematology disorders, with expertise in leukemias, lymphomas, brain tumors, neuroblastoma, sarcomas, rare tumors, renal tumors, CAR T-cell therapies, cancer survivorship, health services research, hemoglobinopathies and hemophilia.
* More than 9,000 children with cancer and blood disorders are treated annually at the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center
* The Aflac pediatric oncology program sees ~500 new cancer diagnoses each year. Aflac is the pediatric component of the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
* The Aflac pediatric hematology program is one of the largest in the country (including >2,000 active patients with sickle cell disease, and >1,000 with bleeding or clotting disorders)
* The Aflac blood and marrow transplantation program performs ~80 transplants each year, and is one of the leaders in curative therapies for hemoglobinopathies.
* In 2024, Aflac faculty generated $31M in extramural funding, including more than $17M from the NIH
* The Aflac fellowship program accepts 6 fellows each year for intensive clinical and research training in pediatric hematology/oncology. We are one of the few pediatric programs with an NIH-funded T32 training grant in non-malignant hematology.
* The Aflac Developmental Therapeutics Program includes Leukemia and Lymphoma faculty from the High-Risk Leukemia team and offers a wide portfolio of clinical trials from cooperative groups, industry partners, and investigator-initiated studies, and has a larger referral base in the southeastern United States. Aflac is a member of the COG Pediatric Early Phase Clinical Trials Network (PEP-CTN), NANT, TACL, and PBTC.
* The MIBG and Relapsed Neuroblastoma Program is the largest in the southeast and has treated ~100 patients with therapeutic MIBG since its inception in 2013.

Job Description
Oversees the day-to-day operations, ensuring a high-quality patient/family experience. Monitors and improves revenue generation and operational efficiency of the assigned practice(s). Oversees larger practices and multiple locations with high patient throughput, inpatient, and/or procedural services and an evolving strategic plan and/or growing scope of programs and/or services.
Experience
* 5 years of experience in operations with strong financial, human resources, and systems background
* Experience in a physician practice setting
* Demonstrated experience in various systems/software/technology components, e.g., Microsoft, Epic
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's in Business Administration, Health Administration, or related field
* Operations experience in surgical specialty

Job Responsibilities
* Partners with clinical operations leaders to direct day-to-day practice operations, including staffing, resources, access, patient throughput, reporting, and operational issues.
* Assesses, identifies, and implements opportunities for additional gains in access, quality, revenue, and expense control.
* Provides onboarding and continued support to providers, e.g., schedules, expense reimbursement, clinic initiatives, and staff concerns.
* Forecasts and develops operational and capital budgets, providing monthly and ad hoc statistical data interpretation and variance reporting with timely immediate corrective action plans.
* Manages practice-based revenue cycle charge capture and reconciliation, collections, internal controls, coding, and denial monitoring.
* Ensures back-end processes and/or supports seamless transactions and processes that impact patient throughput and financial viability in a practice.
* Ensures structure addresses changes in technology, operational processes, and practice needs.
* Builds relationships with key stakeholders, communicating progress towards key performance indicators.
* Partners with the corresponding entity for non-employed leased physicians and clinical staff needs and manages invoices and timely reimbursement.
* Identifies and resolves important ethical, strategic, and operating problems that require innovative solutions based on extensive knowledge of the healthcare industry.
* Oversees and directs administrative activities, including current operational policies and procedures and internal/external reports and correspondence.
* Maintains open lines of communication and positive working relationships with staff, physicians, and key system partners.
* Evaluates and makes recommendations for business development and expansion opportunities.
* Oversees implementation of all expansion projects.
* Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional growth and development to remain current in changing healthcare trends as relates to management of clinic operations.

$21.85 - $32.80Job Summary: Serving as a critical member of the patient care team, the Medical Assistant (MA) renders clinical care under the direction of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, or Physician Assistants. Primary duties of this position include rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting information in the electronic medical record (EHR), administering medications, assisting with procedures and treatments, providing patient education, stocking exam rooms, and verifying that lab, x-ray or procedure reports are available for provider. The MA also accurately performs required computer functions including but not limited to medication reconciliation, coding of medical and laboratory procedures, order entry and scheduling of appointments. Requirements: 1. High School Diploma/GED 2. Medical Assisting diploma from a nationally recognized accredited program 3.
