**SHIFT: 12 PM-8:30 PM / FULL-TIME / 40 HOURS**
**LOCATION: EMORY DECATUR HOSPITAL**
**Description**
+ Operates radiologic equipment to produce radiographs (x-rays) of the body for diagnostic purposes.
+ Performs routine, portable, operating room or flouoroscope exams.
+ Performs complex radiographic procedures and provides guidance to lower level Radiologic Technologists and students.
+ Positions patient, adjusts equipment to produce high quality x-rays, and explains various procedures to the patient.
+ Takes precautions to minimize staff and patient exposure to radiation.
+ Assists in training radiology staff and students.
+ Assists in radiology quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
+ Effectively communicates with patients, family and other health care team members.
+ Keeps patient and families abreast of patient's progress.
+ Explains procedures to patients/families to reduce their anxiety and to obtain patient cooperation.
+ Assists with patient/family education.
+ Assumes and provides patient care for radiologic procedures.
+ Anticipates potential patient crisis by continually evaluating patient during radiologic procedures.
+ Sets up procedure rooms including equipment and supplies.
+ Assists with and performs multiple radiologic procedures in appropriate timeframe.
+ Ensures that patients have been prepared for procedures.
+ Performs routine, portable, operating room, and fluoroscopic procedures to produce radiologic images.
+ Completes all aspects of patient care documentation following the established charting procedures.
+ Completes procedures in Radiology Information System to ensure billing of exams/procedure.
+ Participates in performance improvement data collection.
+ Follows all safety requirements of the hospital and department.
+ Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patients and staff.
+ Uses personal protective equipment as required. May participate on safety committee.
+ Properly operates, mobilizes and positions equipment.
+ Sets exposure factors and uses appropriate techniques and protocols.
+ Responsible for safe operation of radiologic equipment.
+ Cleans equipment and stocks procedure rooms.
+ Troubleshoots equipment problems and advises supervisor of equipment malfunctions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and at a minimum be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
+ Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Requires standing and walking while wearing 10 to 15-pound lead radiation protection aprons. Exposure to radiation, secretions and blood. Confined working area. Normal vision, manual dexterity and good eye and hand coordination is necessary to operate equipment. Constant concentration during procedures.

$35.50 - $53.25Job Summary: Radiology technologists, sonographers and nuclear medicine technologists fall within the broad scope of a radiology profession. Using radiation in the form of x-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound and nuclear medicine, radiographers assess, diagnose, and treat patients for a variety of injuries and diseases. Often part of a medical team, radiographers are typically involved in initial patient evaluation and testing, providing diagnostic and evidentiary data for physicians. They are responsible for preparing and safely positioning patients in order to get the most accurate images. Tasks may range from assisting a radiologist with advanced preparation and testing to administrative tasks, such as organizing work schedules and maintain patient records. Other tasks include maintaining exam room equipment and supplies, maintaining documentation as required by ACR and ICANL, completing accurate coding of radiologic procedures and having the accurate knowledge of commonly used CPT codes. The technologist may specialize in many different modalities such as Mammography, CT, MRI, US, Fluro, Dexa, Nuclear Medicine and C-Arm for Epidurals. Similarly, US sonographers also assist physicians with data images designed to identify issues with internal organs using noninvasive sound waves. Sonographers may specialize in several areas, including women's health, vascular technology, or echocardiography. Requirements: 1. High School Diploma/GED 2. Associate's Degree from an approved Radiology Technology Program or certificate from an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists program. 3. Current certification with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. 4. Continuing Education is required to maintain ARRT/ARDMS certification. 5. Current Basic Life Support certification.

Job Responsibilities
* Operates modality specific technical equipment related to patient care imaging, image processing, image transmission, image archiving, and computerized electronic medical records. Updates the electronic medical records through: Order Entry, Exam Scheduling, Exam Check-in, Begin and End Exams, Exam Verification, Exam Merging, and Image Rejection. Ensures accuracy of billing for radiology procedures.
* Provides radiologists and physicians with patient history relative to exam being performed and obtaining informed consent.
* Assists radiologists, as required, in the administration of contrast media and/or radioisotopes during exams.
* Collaborates with physicians, nurses, sedation/anesthesia personnel, and all staff members to ensure a safe outcome for the patient.
* Participates in the department and modality specific quality improvement initiatives, including ACR accreditation.
* Consistently demonstrates proficiency in performing radiologic examinations using appropriate standardized protocols to produce the highest quality images, evaluating images for technical quality prior to sending to picture archiving and communication system for interpretation by radiologists.
* Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages. Includes family/caregiver in patient care and provides effective education appropriate for the learning needs of patient and family.
* Uses critical thinking principles in making decisions which lead to desired outcomes, while participating in the achievement of organizational and department goals by following hospital and departmental policies.

Description
* Operates radiologic equipment to produce radiographs (x-rays) for diagnostic purposes. Performs routine, portable, operating room or flouroscopy exams.
* Provides quality patient care, positions patient and adjusts equipment to produce high quality images.
* Communicates and explains various procedures to the patient/family.
* Takes precautions to minimize staff and patient exposure to radiation.
* Properly operates, mobilizes and positions equipment.
* Sets exposure factors and uses appropriate techniques and protocols.
* Cleans equipment and stocks procedure rooms.
* Troubleshoots equipment problems and advises supervisor of equipment malfunctions.
* Effectively communicates with patients, family and other health care team members.
* Explains procedures to patients/families to reduce their anxiety and to obtain patient cooperation.
* Provides quality care to all patients having radiologic procedures.
* Performs radiologic studies for assigned patients.
* Sets up procedure rooms including equipment and supplies.
* Positions patient on examining table and obtains optimum radiologic images.
* Performs routine, portable, operating room, and fluoroscopic procedures to produce radiologic images.
* Seeks assistance when needed.required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and at a minimum be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or be registry eligible.
* If registry eligible they must complete and pass the registry within one (1) year of employment.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
