But they\u2019re also aware that this can be overcome by a CV that packs a punch in terms of responsibilities and \u00a0\u2014 even more importantly \u00a0\u2014 achievements. Especially when the company concerned was an impressive place to work.<\/p>\n<p>So for an <em>employer<\/em>, rather than just relying on a job title to attract potential candidates, it\u2019s important to be able to demonstrate the opportunities and potential to succeed within the job.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"job-titles-need-to-reflect-responsibilities\"><strong>Job titles need to reflect responsibilities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>More importantly the actual position title must accurately reflect what your particular team member will be doing in the role. Don\u2019t make it too vague or \u2018creative\u2019. You will just confuse people or perhaps even put them off.<\/p>\n<p>Internally you might decide to call your receptionist the \u201c<em>Director of First Impressions<\/em>\u201d, but on a job description or on a job ad it should just say \u201c<em>Receptionist<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Would somebody reading their job title in their email signature or on their business card understand what they do?<\/p>\n<p>An unchallenging role in a small company may well be accompanied by an impressive title.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a Senior Manager could be a one-man \u2018team\u2019 with very limited responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile at a larger company the reverse might be true. A Senior Manager might be expected to build and lead a team, manage multiple projects, and play a core leadership role within a vast and sophisticated global organization.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"what-are-you-really-offering\"><strong>What are you <em>really<\/em> offering?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes people get the wrong idea about a job, based simply on the job title and this can lead to missed opportunities and overlooked candidates.<\/p>\n<p>When considering a candidate for a particular opportunity within your business, you need to look beyond the title that appears alongside their previous role on their CV.
