Last week I went along to GitHub\u2019s \u201cUniverse\u201d conference here in San Francisco. It was certainly an event of epic proportion.<\/p>\n

I really wasn\u2019t sure what to expect. However one thing that became very clear to me was that even after playing in the recruiting game for 20+ years now, recruiting in the tech space is unlike any other.<\/p>\n

Trying to get my head around the notion of \u201copen sourcing the Git LFS product\u201d, the fact that \u201cpull requests are one of the most essential workflow pieces of modern application development\u201d, and even just the idea of making \u201csafer shipping code\u201d, I have to admit that at times I thought I had entered a parallel universe.<\/p>\n

As a self-confessed \u201cnon-techie\u201d (although I am told by some of our team that I am getting a hell of a lot better!), I looked around the sold-out venue and realised that I had no idea how what the guy sitting next to me did was any different to the woman in front of me. Once I asked them, I realised that their jobs were vastly different. I just hope my awkward smile didn\u2019t give away the fact I still had no idea what they really did.<\/p>\n

Now I\u2019m certainly not saying that I\u2019m about to go out and become the #1 recruiter in the world of Hadoop, or that I will suddenly be able to find you the best developers of distributed, non-linear workflows (that\u2019s \u201cGit\u201d, right?). But for those recruiters who, like me, may not be masters in the tech space, or for those internal recruiters with senior developers breathing down their backs to find them more staff \u2018yesterday\u2019, there\u2019s got to be a solution.<\/p>\n

Fortunately our friends at Modis appreciate that with the demand for IT professionals going through the roof, finding the right tech talent is tough stuff!<\/p>\n
