Duties & Scope
Develop relationships with project managers, subcontractors, engineers, and vendors to ensure a team approach and lay a foundation for building a career in the construction industry.
Collaborate with superintendent to track material; maintains positive relationships with vendors for tracking, coordination, and close-out purposes.
Act as a champion of the Helix safety culture. Monitors and encourages jobsite safety and accident prevention.
Engage in the Change Order process and is introduced to Accubid to assist with estimating.
Partner with the project team to analyze subcontract agreements to better understand scope of work and project pricing.
Involved with material and equipment procurement.
Collaborate closely with the BIM department and is directly involved in the coordination and planning process.
Produce and maintain detailed job logs (transmittals, submittals, RFIs).
Exposure to and monitoring of quality control.
Manage labor schedules by working closely with superintendents and project managers.
Create and order prefabricated assemblies to assist in planning and on time delivery.
Walk jobs, learn the trade inside and out, and utilize knowledge to enhance overall company performance.
Qualifications
Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program such as Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
Previous construction or internship experience preferred.
Highly motivated with a tendency to take initiative.
Basic math skills with ability to calculate and analyze data.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good organizational skills.
The ability to work well with all levels of the organization.
A mindset for making continuous improvements of department processes.
The starting hourly base pay for this role is between USD $21.00 and $26.00 per hour. The actual base is dependent upon many factors, such as: location, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. **A DAY IN THE LIFE**
At ARCO, an Intern has the opportunity to assist Project Managers with the following:
+ **Estimating -** Describing project proposals and assigning dollar values to the projects
+ **Scheduling -** Creating a working timeline for subcontractors/trades in order to complete the project on time
+ **Design meetings -** Attend design meetings with owner and team to understand design pro structural engineers, architects
+ **Buyout -** Send bid instructions, schedule, and drawings to subcontractors. Receive and evaluate proposals, then award the subcontracts
+ **Permitting** - Fill out permit forms, submit forms with drawings and fees, then send to city/county/fire and wait for approval
+ **Shop Drawing and Submittal Review** - Receive shop drawing or submittal from subcontractor, give to PM, communicate to subcontractor that they can begin ordering material and working
+ **Billing** - Subcontracts, change orders, pay requests, and pay applications
+ **Job Site Visits -** Visit job site with PM, make sure project is running smoothly
**NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Enrolled in Civil/Mechanical/Architectural or Construction Management Bachelor's degree program
+ Minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0 out of 4.0
+ Previous Internship or Co-op construction experience preferred
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong work ethic

As an Intern, you will be given the opportunity to apply your academic training and skills in a real-world setting at any number of project locations. In addition, you will assist the project manager, project engineer, and the rest of the on-site construction staff in the application of principles, methods, and techniques of engineering technology by performing any combination of the following duties at a project job site.
Field engineer interns will be required to have a working knowledge of the entire project, including plan interpretation, project specifications, project cost code knowledge, and the overall construction schedule. In performing any number or combination of the following tasks, you shall support published corporate policies, set a productive and consistent work example, and be responsible to follow up on all tasks assigned.
What you will be doing
* Assist with evaluation of field conditions and acceptance testing
* Support quality assurance and quality control engineering materials testing
* Apply survey knowledge to assist with project layout and checking of work to confirm work is in conformance with plans and specifications
* Review project drawings and coordinate any design changes
* Provide document control assistance for correspondence, submittals, design releases etc.
* Initiate engineering design clarifications
* Perform quantity tracking and productivity analysis for maximization of operation efficiency
* Assist with preparing and updating project schedule and interact will all involved in scheduling decision processes
* Respond to field for design clarification, and manage subcontractors field operations and verify contract payments
* Provide design assistance to the project engineer for the design of temporary structures using computer aided design tools
What we are looking for
* Field engineer interns/co-ops are required to be currently enrolled in Engineering, Construction Management or a similar undergraduate program at an accredited technical college or university
