Job Summary:
Support the Carbon Capital Team in all aspects of project development, management and general engineering for all energy related projects with a focus on energy conservation. This job will have a key role in helping to maximize the development of Cox Conserves projects. This position consults across the team and company to ensure the integrity of projects and alignment to the Cox Conserves goals.
Key work areas for this role include energy assessments and reporting, project development, financial modeling, budgeting, construction, operation, management, monitoring infrastructure assets, modifications, periodic inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective action, failure analysis, measurement and tracking. Applicant must demonstrate a strong aptitude to be able to independently identify, develop and manage projects.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform detailed facility-level energy assessments and reports.
Identify, develop and manage energy-related capital projects, with a focus on energy conservation projects, to align with Cox Conserves goals and reduce environmental impacts.
Help team with strategic planning for department's annual and long-term capital budget expenditures.
Execute financial models to determine investment IRR.
Execute models to determine energy and environmental impact for projects.
Ensure projects are developed correctly and accurately to reflect financial and environmental impacts.
Ensure projects are integrated seamlessly into operations by developing and implementing training.
Provide oversight to contract project managers in the execution of capital projects.
Perform and manage facility sustainability audits to identify projects to maintain a strong sustainability project portfolio.
Ensure safe work practices.
Hire and manage vendors for the operation, maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment.
Assist in design, construction, commissioning, and operations for projects.
File reports with utilities and government entities or other Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) as required.
Analyze power bills and publications related to incentives to determine prospective locations for energy projects.
Manage inventory of spare equipment for energy projects and other sustainability assets.
Report all relevant project aspects and performance with all internal sustainability databases.

Job Qualifications - Experience/Education/Training:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or similar degree along with 4+ years of related experience. Candidate can also have a combination of an MS degree and 2+ years of experience, or 8 years in lieu of a degree.
3+ years project development/management related experience.
Results-oriented with demonstrated ability to manage resources to deliver projects on-time and on-budget.

Position Overview:
New Ecology, Inc. is seeking an engineering candidate with 3-5 years of experience for the position of Energy Engineer 2. The successful candidate will primarily work out of NEI's Wilmington, DE office. This position is part of our growing Decarbonization Division. The Decarbonization Engineering team works with building owners and developers to provide services that reduce carbon emissions and improve building performance, operation, resiliency, and resident health and comfort. Services include benchmarking building energy performance, assessing existing conditions and developing scopes of work for improvement, estimating savings and cost, predicting compliance with regulations, assisting with implementation tasks and more.
The Energy Engineer 2 will provide technical and construction management support to decarbonization projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. Work will require travel to client sites primarily in Delaware, and skills such as written and oral communications, comprehension of utility data and use thereof, building systems and energy auditing processes. This person will work with the team on program planning and ensuring services and results are delivered in compliance with utility[JI1] programs and client expectations. A typical workday may include: meet and interact with facilities managers and contractors on site to conduct energy audits, explore opportunities for upgrades of existing mechanical systems, prepare scopes of work for installation of efficiency upgrades, seek and evaluate competitive bids, conduct post-installation site inspections and verify work is done to specifications. New Ecology is developing an emerging service to help owners plan for decarbonization over time, and this person will assist in that effort. We are seeking a candidate with a mechanical engineering or related degree and experience with HVAC systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to New Ecology, Inc.'s Director of Engineering/Senior Energy Engineer, the candidate will also collaborate extensively with project managers and other technical staff, as well as client's staff. Specific tasks will include:
Conducting ASHRAE energy audits, including site assessments of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and building enclosures;
Preparing and delivering written audit reports;
Analyzing energy usage and calculating savings using spreadsheet or energy modeling tools;
Developing recommendations for energy efficient upgrades to building envelopes, plumbing, HVAC, lighting, appliances, on-site power generation, and other energy and water systems;
Estimating implementation costs and conducting cost-benefit analysis of upgrades;
Conducting quality control inspections of completed projects, including preparation of site visit reports to document project conditions with supporting photo descriptions;.
Providinge guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and interns, fostering skill development in energy auditing and project management; and.
Supporting training initiatives, including internal knowledge sharing on building science, decarbonization strategies, and efficiency technologies.

Required Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field;
3-5 years of experience in energy efficiency, HVAC design, or energy auditing;.

Your Role at a Glance
Develops and maintains monthly electricity usage forecasts to guide operational planning.
Actively supports the plant's Energy Advisory Team in identifying and implementing energy-saving initiatives.
Leads the summer 5CP curtailment program for both ATSI and PJM, optimizing load reduction strategies to minimize peak demand charges.
Prepares monthly consumption forecasts and provide weekly updates on mill production gas usage.
Collaborates with sourcing teams to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of natural gas.
Serves as the primary liaison for communicating operational disruptions or production changes that may affect energy forecasts and usage.
Proactively mitigates potential penalties by ensuring accurate and timely updates to electricity and natural gas suppliers.
Monitors and interprets legislative developments that may influence energy costs, including rate cases and regulatory shifts.
Maintains active involvement with industry organizations such as the Ohio Energy Leadership Council (OELC) and the Industrial Energy Consumers of America (IECA).
Conducts audits of energy projects to assess efficiency gains and validate performance improvements.
Performs benchmarking analyses both internally and externally to identify best practices and opportunities for advancement.
Leads the execution of energy-focused capital projects aimed at improving sustainability and operational efficiency such as; On-site energy storage systems, Advanced lighting upgrades, Compressed air system enhancements, Gas system expansions, HVAC modernization, Solar and other renewable energy integration.
What Sets You Apart
We're looking for individuals who bring the right mix of experience, mindset, and motivation:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering; concentration in electrical engineering preferred.
Experience in Energy Management.
Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical engineering, preferably in steel or heavy industrial environments.
Strong focus on natural gas and proficiency in working with electrical systems including substations, switchgear, transformers and protective relays.
Hands-on involvement with natural gas infrastructure, including pipeline systems, metering, pressure regulation, and combustion optimization.
Proven track record of conducting energy audits, identifying inefficiencies, and implementing cost-saving measures.
Experience with load forecasting, peak shaving, and curtailment programs (e.g., 5CP, PJM demand response).
Familiarity with energy procurement, contract administration, and working with utility providers.
Demonstrated experienced-based problem-solving, communication, coaching and leadership skills.
Experience with Project Management or TPM.
