Engagement/project managers do all the work that a project manager at a company would do, such as planning deadlines for a project, developing methods to make the job go more efficiently, etc. However, instead of working in-house for the company, they help clients with their projects.

In addition to their project management skills, engagement/project managers need to be excellent communicators and have a knack for customer service. They help guide clients through their projects, hone their goals, and identify processes that can help them. Engagement/project managers can work for an office, or they can be freelance consultants.

Engagement/project managers can find work in many industries, from tech to finance. Often, they need a bachelor's degree in a related field and some work experience. Some even pursue project management certification to show clients that they really are the best at what they do.

What general advice would you give to an Engagement/Project Manager?

Be flexible. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a lot of uncertainty, but has created new opportunities in others. Staying flexible allows individuals to shift focus away from industries or occupations that may be in decline, and re-focus on employment opportunities that may be more aligned with our current moment.
