What You Can Expect
As our Construction Management Senior at The University of Iowa you will have the critical leadership role of managing safe, efficient, and high-quality construction projects across the University of Iowa Campus. These projects advance the University's energy and utility infrastructure and are located on the Main and Oakdale campuses, including the University Hospital.
This position supports a 50-year concession agreement to operate, maintain and enhance the University of Iowa's utility system. The projects you'll take on will involve numerous and diverse projects in the areas of electric and thermal energy production and distribution, and storm and wastewater infrastructure. No two days will be the same.
What You Will Do:
Lead pre-construction safety planning by developing HSE plans, conducting site hazard assessments, and managing traffic control, site access, and security credentialing
Maintain a strong safety presence in the field through daily job walks, active engagement with contractors and internal teams, and reinforcement of ENGIE's Stop Work Authority and zero-incident culture
Prepare and implement comprehensive HSEQ plans for all capital improvement and efficiency projects, ensuring alignment with regulatory and ENGIE standards
Coordinate with GIS analysts and utility locators to identify buried utilities and confined spaces, integrating findings into job safety plans before ground-breaking
Monitor construction activities for compliance with safety protocols, engineering standards, and code requirements; proactively resolve issues while providing field input to track schedule and budget performance
Support project development and execution by assisting with bidder site visits, RFIs, cost estimation, and scheduling; review contractor plans for constructability, operator access, and long-term maintenance safety considerations
Partner with project engineers and managers to develop specifications and construction documents embedding safety, quality, and compliance; provide technical/commercial oversight including review of change requests, directives, and contractor payment applications
Oversee QA/QC and commissioning processes, ensuring all work meets specifications, passes inspections, and is left in a safe, operable condition
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or a related technical field (ABET-accredited preferred) OR a high school diploma/GED and with at least five (5) additional years of equivalent experience in construction management or engineering in lieu of degree
Minimum five (5) years of construction management experience on industrial or municipal projects, with proven success in safety, quality, and schedule performance
Deep knowledge of thermal plant design, construction, and operations, plus strong understanding of campus or district energy systems and delivery methods such as Design-Build and CMAR
Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership, fostering a culture that prioritizes zero incidents and protects employees, contractors, and the public
Effective interpersonal and leadership skills, including ability to build trust, resolve conflicts, and facilitate meetings to achieve performance goals
Experience in project controls and oversight, including RFQ/RFP evaluations, subcontractor management, contract administration, change management, and constructability reviews
Proficiency in technical communication and reporting, using tools like Microsoft Office and Procore to prepare presentations, reports, and stakeholder updates; skilled in problem-solving and root cause analysis
Additional Details
This role requires daily presence on active construction sites and is not eligible for hybrid in-office work schedule
Some night or weekend work is possible based on project schedules and call outs due to outages
Must comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies and maintain OSHA certifications (OSHA 10 within 30 days; OSHA 30 within one year)
Valid state-issued driver's license and clean driving record required; role involves safe operation of company vehicles
Work is approximately 50% indoors and 50% outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions and temperatures
Ability to access confined spaces, walk short distances less than one (1) mile, and occasionally lift materials

Compensation
Salary Range: $86,100 - $132,020 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

You will operate and monitor a wide range of industrial equipment that supports steam and electrical production for campus customers. You will work as part of a rotating shift team and partner closely with Operations and Maintenance to keep plant systems operating within design, safety, and regulatory limits.
You will perform field rounds, log equipment data, respond to alarms, support testing and treatment activities, and provide operational coverage across multiple functions. This role requires strong technical knowledge, clear communication across shifts, and the ability to respond to plant conditions in real time. Your work directly supports campus reliability, safety, and service continuity.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Power Plant Operations your roles and responsibilities consist of:
* Responsible for the safe, proper and efficient operation of all machinery and related equipment (turbine generators, boilers, pumps, air compressors, conveying systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying system, control valves, etc.) as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
* Responsible to report and keep the appropriate personnel informed by communicating verbally and in writing all pertinent information amongst the shift, between shifts, production support personnel and management personnel.
* Know and understand the normal operating condition of each piece of plant equipment and be aware of the present operating condition of each piece of plant equipment.
* Perform hourly rounds and other round schedules as outlined in shift procedures and/or as assigned by Shift Supervisor. Record and ensure that plant operating logs are kept current and accurate.
* Perform daily housekeeping tasks and any other housekeeping tasks as assigned by Shift Supervisor/Management.
* Required to provide relief and support in other job classifications including but not limited to all other Operations positions, Maintenance and Fuel Unloading.
* Perform regular and routine testing & treatment of boiler water as directed.
* Responsible for vacation/emergency relief as required. This may require coverage for the Shift Supervisor and all other Operations positions. Also, may be required to work overtime as deemed necessary by the Plant Management Team.
* Utilize a CMMS for writing and completing work orders with notes.
* Carries out other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do

As an Mechanical Distribution Intern at the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, IA, you will support the team that provides distribution of chilled water, electricity, steam and water to multiple customers across campuses. This group maintains the cabling, controls network, metering, piping, pumping, substation, tunnel and vault systems that comprise the distribution systems. These positions may also assist with development and execution of materials inventory tracking, or installed inventory, using a variety of computer programs.
Expect each day to be a learning opportunity as a Mechanical Distribution Intern. You may independently conduct data collection, modeling, sampling or light maintenance without direct supervision. You also may assist with data analysis, modeling and recommendations for improvements to system designs, operations procedures preventative maintenance programs and record-keeping systems.
Our office operates within standard business hours from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with no weekend or after-hours work expected. This internship is structured to begin in the Spring semester and continue through the Summer and Fall semesters, ending on December 31, 2026. We provide part-time, flexible scheduling during the semester, while full-time commitment is optional for the summer term.
Your roles and responsibilities include:
Be able to independently identify maintenance needs in distribution systems contact the Utilities Distribution Planner to develop Corrective Work Orders.
Efficiently develop and maintain results and analyses of distribution systems across campus, working at the direction of the Utilities Distribution management and planning staff to help identify, document and track distribution performance and maintenance needs.
Maintain equipment inventory databases, working at the direction of Utilities Distribution management and planning staff. Inventory could be retained in spreadsheet, database, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), or ArcGIS, depending on dataset and usage.
Maintain records systems.

What You'll Bring
Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED with six (6) years of experience in water treatment plant operations. An Associate degree with five (5) years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with three (3) years of relevant experience.
Certification as a Grade III Water Treatment Plant Operator in Iowa, or the ability to obtain this certification within one year.
Minimum of three (3) years' experience in water treatment plant operations, including hands-on work in a surface water treatment plant with a production capacity above 2 MGD.
Direct experience supervising staff performance and development.
Practical experience meeting safety and environmental compliance requirements for utility operations.
Demonstrated knowledge of sampling and reporting requirements for domestic water plants.
Knowledge of reverse osmosis system operations and maintenance requirements.

Daily, you will use real-time and historical data to drive efficiency improvements and cost savings for the campus utility system which provides steam, electricity, chilled water, water and sewer services. Most of this data is collected using the PI System software which connects to control systems at the campus Power Plant, Chilled Water Plants, Water Plant and Electrical Distribution Systems as well as real-time metering for steam, electricity, chilled water and water meters at approximately 90 buildings. This data is used to populate real-time graphical displays as well as being stored long-term for analyses and reporting.
Reporting to the Utility Performance Engineer, This position will split time working in the Power Plant and at the Energy Control Center located in The University Services Building (USB).
Hours are flexible but this Student can work up to 20 hours per week while enrolled in an active semester and up to 40 hours per week during breaks (spring, summer, and/or winter) during the hours of 7 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Power Plant Operations your roles and responsibilities consist of:
Responsible for the safe, proper and efficient operation of all machinery and related equipment (turbine generators, boilers, pumps, air compressors, conveying systems, fans, electric motors, ash conveying system, control valves, etc.) as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
Responsible to report and keep the appropriate personnel informed by communicating verbally and in writing all pertinent information amongst the shift, between shifts, production support personnel and management personnel.
Know and understand the normal operating condition of each piece of plant equipment and be aware of the present operating condition of each piece of plant equipment.
Perform hourly rounds and other round schedules as outlined in shift procedures and/or as assigned by Shift Supervisor. Record and ensure that plant operating logs are kept current and accurate.

Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on switchgear, breakers, motors, lighting, and instrumentation.
Support operation and repair of medium voltage systems (600V-15kV) under the guidance of High Voltage Electricians.
Diagnose issues in motor control centers, variable frequency drives, and building automation systems.
Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
Plan work sequences, coordinate outages, and document maintenance activity.
Participate in scheduled on-call rotations for maintenance coverage as needed.
What You'll Bring
This role requires a minimum education level of a High School Diploma or GED.
State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician license.

Engie currently collects real-time data from thousands of process points from the utility and building automation systems on the University of Iowa campus. This information is vital to maintaining the efficient operation of the University's utilities.
Daily, you will use real-time and historical data to drive efficiency improvements and cost savings for the campus utility system which provides steam, electricity, chilled water, water and sewer services. Most of this data is collected using the PI System software which connects to control systems at the campus Power Plant, Chilled Water Plants, Water Plant and Electrical Distribution Systems as well as real-time metering for steam, electricity, chilled water and water meters at approximately 90 buildings. This data is used to populate real-time graphical displays as well as being stored long-term for analyses and reporting.
Reporting to the Utility Performance Engineer, This position will split time working in the Power Plant and at the Energy Control Center located in The University Services Building (USB).
Hours are flexible but this Student can work up to 20 hours per week while enrolled in an active semester and up to 40 hours per week during breaks (spring, summer, and/or winter) during the hours of 7 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday.
* Build replicas of automation displays linked to live data using PI Vision software. Add and update tag in the PI System. Design reports using PI Datalink add-in to Excel

What You Can Expect
As a Water Treatment Technician II, you will play a key role in maintaining the University of Iowa's drinking water treatment plant and supporting the High-Quality Water (HQW) Group, which oversees facilities such as the Oakdale Water Plant, Macbride Nature Recreation Area Public Water System, and campus pools and spas. This is a day-shift position (Monday-Friday) with rotational on-call duties, including nights, weekends, and holidays. When on call, you must be able to report on-site within one hour.
Each day, you will review priorities, plan tasks, and interact with students, faculty, and staff, explaining service and repair processes and addressing safety concerns with professionalism and courtesy. You'll also provide exceptional customer service while working in diverse campus environments, including hospitals, pharmacies, and research labs, and complete assigned tasks while maintaining accurate records of time and materials using the company's work order management system. While you will collaborate with others in the plant, this role is much more customer-facing and operates with a sense of ownership, similar to running your own business. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work in the trades, values excellent customer service, and is eager to grow with the organization.
Your roles and responsibilities encompass:
Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on various water treatment equipment (e.g., water softeners, reverse osmosis systems, filtration systems).
Perform mechanical, electrical, and controls troubleshooting on pumps, motors, valves, and compressors. Monitor and maintain chemical injection systems.
Install and repair piping for water, steam, and compressed air, including piping of carbon steel, galvanized, stainless, copper, and various plastics.
Conduct electrical troubleshooting (e.g., checking voltage to pumps, switches, motors).
Performs and/or coordinates preventive and general maintenance, calibration of water treatment equipment, to maintain maximum performance of equipment and processes.
Inputs data obtained from monitoring into computer-based systems for the purpose of determining and tracking the water quantity and quality produced and determining maintenance needs, including development of preventative maintenance schedules.
Completes tasks as assigned and scheduled, maintaining accurate records of time and materials spent to provide services, utilizing the company's work order management system.
After training, may be required to operate facilities in certain situations.
