Engine Oil Testing Engineers interact closely with Passenger Car (PC) and Heavy Duty Diesel (HDD) business teams to understand and support product approval and differentiation needs while ensuring that Mechanical Testing resources are efficiently deployed to support commercial needs. This includes providing engineering support to the lab operating team, coordination of work from internal and external service groups, new test development, interpretation of test results and technical presentations to global OEM's, partners, customers and internal colleagues.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develops in-depth knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine oil test methods for lubricant product development and product differentiation. Interacts with technical and commercial teams for the Transportation business to develop and enact testing strategies that best support business objectives. Leverages engineering knowledge and testing expertise to drive continuous safety improvement and operational excellence in the organization. Provides regular updates to business stakeholders on technical and project achievements as well as hurdles. Applies engineering skills and knowledge in the development of new tests and test procedures. Ensures that projects are aligned with business goals and there are agreed-upon milestones, dates, and accountability. Reviews project performance at milestones and ensure accountability to deliver agreed upon results. Applies financial knowledge and methods to evaluate testing opportunities and strategies to support the business while maximizing utilization of testing assets and return on capital investments. Coaches and mentors Technical Facilitators and Lab Technicians Leverages trends in customer industries/marketplaces to shape solutions and approaches for the customer. Tracks Division and MT Department goals and the group's progress against them. Supports processes that ensure operating flexibility in response to customer demands. Interacts with laboratory operations, data acquisition and control, and other resources. Effectively coordinates these resources to ensure optimum test performance (cost, quality and linkage to business objectives). Reviews project progress, issues, roadblocks and successes with the engineering manager on a Partner across technology groups [Engine Oils, Driveline, Industrial] striving for consistency in processes and Best Practice sharing when practical.
Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Mechanical Engineering preferred General knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine oil systems and the OEM's that build these systems. Ability to conduct data analysis and provide conclusions and/or recommendations for improvement in the test area. Ability to provide clear, concise and timely reports reviewing the pertinent details, status and results of all test activities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to respond resourcefully and constructively to new demands, priorities and obstacles. Ability to present a compelling case for ideas and initiatives that advance the business strategy.
Considered a Plus
Previous experience in engine oil testing. Co-op or previous work experience in Mechanical Engineering field.
Working Conditions
May require occasional domestic travel and infrequent international travel. Requires use of appropriate PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, to fulfill safety requirements.

ROTATIONAL POSITION WITH 3 WEEKS ON / 3 WEEKS OFF!
MSRC is offering an excellent career opportunity for a QMED-Oiler or Assistant Engineer with the leader in the oil spill response industry. Working a 3 week on / 3 week off schedule , the Oiler or Assistant Engineer will assist the Chief Engineer in the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repair of all equipment and systems.
Requirements :
- Current USCG license, Oiler/QMED (minimum), Assistant Engineer (preferred)
- License endorsements must list endorsements specific to STCW (III/1 and/or III/4, III/5, VI/1-VI/4), Applicable Domestic endorsements and lifeboatman
- Valid USCG medical certificate (STCW) required
- Capable of prolonged, strenuous work onboard vessels at sea
- Effective leadership and written and oral communications skills
- Ability to operate industrial equipment and their systems safely
- Ability to operate a personal computer
- 40-Hour Hazwoper is desired

Employment is contingent upon:

Responsibilities :
- Stand engine room watches as required at sea and during maneuvering.
- Operate systems and equipment in accordance with procedures or as otherwise directed by the Chief Engineer.
- Be familiar with normal and emergency operating procedures for the steering gear, generators, bilge pump, and fire pump.
- Become familiar with system and equipment emergency operating procedures.
- Assist with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, approved modifications, and record keeping.
- Conduct routine tests and inspections (i.e., lube oil testing, cooling water testing).
Physical Requirements Include, Among Others:
- Requires standing, lifting up to 45lbs
- Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction
- Able to work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or dry environments
- Ability to perform work in various sea conditions, under all environmental conditions, often wet/oily decks
