RESPONSIBILITIES
Naval Reactors Engineers have oversight of the Navy's entire fleet of nuclear-powered ships as well as shore-based prototypes and nuclear propulsion support facilities for Americas Navy. The wide array of technical areas involved in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion program include:
Reactor and fluid systems design
Reactor physics
Materials development
Component design such as steam generators, pumps and valves
Instrumentation and control of reactor, steam and electric plants
Testing and quality control
Shielding
Chemistry and radiological controls
As a Navy Reactors Engineer stationed at Naval Reactors Headquarters in Washington, D.C., you will provide technical oversight while managing projects ranging from reactor design to fleet operations to de-fueling and decommissioning warships.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
U.S. citizen between the ages of 19 and 29. Exceptions may be possible up to age 40.
Graduate or current student pursuing a B.A., B.S. or M.S. (preferably major in mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry or other technical areas).
Those still in school may apply as early as 18 months from completion of an undergraduate degree for Naval Reactors Engineers.
Applicants may also join the NUPOC program as early as 12 months from completion of a master's degree.
Additional academic requirements include:
Completed one academic year of calculus
Completed one academic year of calculus-based physics
A competitive GPA and a minimum grade of "B" in all technical courses

Preliminary training and eventual staff assignments center around Naval Reactors Headquarters at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. At Headquarters, you will be a part of an elite, streamlined staff of roughly 500 people who oversee the entire Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program from cradle to grave.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned.
Work directly with Sales and Manufacturing.
Follow customer specifications to complete product designs.
Work with Mechanical Designers to select components, develop drawings and maintain as-built revisions.
Advise Mechanical Designers in the creating and modifying of 3D models and 2D drawings SolidWorks.
Create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks or AutoCAD as needed.
Select proper components and generate BOM's.
Provide needed calculations for tanks and/or pressure piping components.
Work with vendors to introduce new and cost-effective products into our systems.
Participate in the inspections of products in various stages of the production process.
Help maintain our ASME Quality Control System.
Participate in Continuous Improvement Initiatives to develop better procedures and increase efficiency.
Assist Project Management with customer interface and act as a SME for Mechanical Design queries.
Create and update internal documents for Engineering Procedures and Training

Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical background.
Strong background using SolidWorks for 3D modeling.
A minimum of 5 years' experience with capital equipment is preferred.
A working knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel Codes, boilers, heat transfer equipment, or auxiliary boiler room equipment is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work independently after proper training and be a self-starter.
Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Knowledge and experience with PDM or PLM software is preferred.
Experience with Codeware Compress is preferred.
Effective time management and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate professionally and clearly.
Willingness to work in a collaborative environment and be a team player.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Work Environment:
This position must perform tasks that involve mainly office exposure, sitting behind a desk performing tasks on a computer. Most of their time, the employee will spend time in the office with low to moderate exposure to noise, heat, and cold environment, other physical requirements include walking, bending, hand dexterity, speaking, seeing, and lifting/moving up to 15 pounds. Assist the localization team regarding capital tooling and equipment. This may include externally purchased capital equipment, internally produced capital equipment, and inter-plant equipment transfers.
Coordinate the updating of all production-related process documentation to reflect most current methods and requirements of assembly.
