Position Overview
Work as part of the engineering team focused on the design and development of optical fiber submarine cable hardware product development, with special focus on covers, seals, and pigtails for undersea network elements (UNEs).
Responsibilities
Perform development, analysis, and testing on undersea hardware for UNE cover assemblies, seals, and pigtails. Includes new product design, process development, documentation, and qualification.
Collaborate with teams on the implementation plan of New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) programs for undersea cable and hardware from the concept phase through to production ramp.
Maintain existing undersea hardware designs through Sustaining Engineering. Includes providing support to Manufacturing and performing Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) activities to maximize the functionality of designs while driving down overall cost.
Work collectively with a team of diverse professionals including factory process engineers, reliability engineers, manufacturing operators, and program managers.
Create and perform undersea hardware qualification testing programs of new designs.
Write clear and concise summaries of analyses, test results, and other work output.
Support Repeater Closure with respect to process efficiency and continuous improvement. Areas including but not limited to: Seal assembly, seal molding, gas block assembly, cover assembly, high pressure test, TIG welding, and vacuum dry.
Establish an expertise in special UNE interconnections such as sealed cover penetrations, optical connectors, electrical connectors, interconnect hoses, etc.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of various materials as pertaining to structural integrity, manufacturability, and thermal management for application in deep water undersea environments.
Exhibit a deep knowledge of high pressure test systems, TIG welding, brazing, x-ray equipment, Helium leak detection equipment and operation, polyethylene molding, etc.

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science is required, Master's is preferred.
Minimum of 8 years mechanical engineering experience with a deep foundation in mechanics and analysis.
Experience in Finite Element, Finite Differences and Other Analysis tools. CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, and ANSYS (or similar) is required.
Ability to microscopically examine molded polyethylene seals, and to identify and disposition non-conformances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Define and develop manufacturing processes.
Create manufacturing routers based on product requirements and best practice.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
3+ years of experience developing manufacturing processes for machining, welding and/or electromechanical assembly.
Experience with manufacturing processes to include CNC machining, paint, coating, plating, welding, heat treating, inspection and assembly.
Detailed understanding of GD&T and experience interpreting detailed engineering drawings.
Experience with project management responsibilities.
3+ years of experience in a defense/aerospace related job shop environment is preferred.
BS in Mechanical, Quality, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering discipline or 5+ years of equivalent on the job training and experience.
Proficiency in MS Office Products
Demonstrated proficiency in Solidworks.
Experience with SolidWorks and CAM software a plus especially CAMworks.
Excellent human interaction skills
Ability to obtain a security clearance a plus.
