DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Design cost-effective, energy-efficient mechanical and plumbing systems that meet client requirements, budget constraints, and company standards. 2. Provide complete, code-compliant system layouts, drawings, specifications, and engineering narratives for all project delivery methods. 3. Perform system calculations including loads, sizing, pressure drops, and energy analysis. 4. Maintain current knowledge of applicable mechanical, plumbing, energy, and building codes, including AHJ requirements. 5. Participate in energy evaluations, payback analyses, and sustainability initiatives (including LEED support where applicable). 6. Support estimating with design-build concepts, system layouts, technical clarifications, and engineering narratives. 7. Review plans and specifications for scope completeness, constructability, risks, and opportunities. 8. Review and validate proposed substitutions and “equals” prior to bid submission and document approved alternatives. 9. Assist estimating and project management with obtaining complete, compliant mechanical equipment quotes, including coordination with manufacturers' representatives. 10. Maintain a clear understanding of project scope, estimated cost, design budget, risks, and optimization opportunities. 11. Collaborate with detailing, fabrication, and field teams to ensure constructability and early system optimization. 12. Participate in project kickoff meetings, coordination meetings, and strategic planning sessions. 13. Provide technical support to project management and detailing teams on both design-build and plan/spec projects, including drawing interpretation and RFI production and review. 14. Participate in and oversee system optimization efforts throughout construction. 15. Support PlanGrid (or equivalent platform) population and maintenance in accordance with company procedures. 16. Prepare permit-ready, budget-compliant design drawings and documentation for design-build and special projects. 17. Coordinate with AHJs to obtain permits and resolve permitting issues, including in-person permit acquisition when required. 18. Support inspections and address code or compliance comments as necessary. 19. Develop and maintain professional working relationships with clients, vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, unions, and AHJs. 20. Manage external engineering and detailing resources when outsourced, including defining scope, schedule, and deliverables in coordination with project management. 21. Key Responsibilities: Design modifications to, or entirely new, mechanical systems related to dams, control structures, water retaining structures, and hydroelectric generating stations. Some highlights should include: Minimum of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. A post-graduate degree would be an asset. Minimum of 7-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering. Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Washington, Oregon, or California, as well as eligible for registration as a professional engineer in other states by comity through NCEES; or, if not already registered as a PE, would be able to obtain licensure within 1 year from date of hire. About the Role We are a concrete subcontractor seeking a Project Engineer to support our Project Management team based in our Rancho Cordova office. This role helps keep projects organized, documented, and moving-supporting communication, implementing document controls, evaluating change order requests and submittals of shop drawings, reviewing project schedules, etc. This position is ideal for someone looking to build or continue a career in construction management. What You'll Do Develop a full understanding of the scope and interdependence of all contract documents. Handle and submit Daily job reports, RFI's, and submittals. Manage effective document control mechanisms for the project to ensure that work is performed in accordance with contract documents. Evaluate change order requests including design changes, specifications and drawing releases and reports status. Evaluate submittals of shop drawings, material data and samples and take appropriate action based upon contract specifications.
