Position Overview Universal Engineering Sciences (UES) is seeking a Geotechnical Laboratory Intern who is detail-oriented, motivated, and eager to learn. In this role, you will support our geotechnical, construction materials testing, and environmental teams by assisting with laboratory testing and analysis on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and other construction materials. As a Lab Intern, you'll work in a controlled laboratory environment where you'll learn industry-standard testing procedures, operate specialized equipment, and help ensure the accuracy and quality of test results that support major infrastructure and construction projects. This internship provides valuable technical experience for students pursuing engineering, geology, construction science, or related fields. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical coursework in engineering, geology, construction science, or a related field preferred. 0-3 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical laboratory work, or a related field (prior laboratory experience preferred but not required). Commitment to workplace safety, following OSHA, company, and laboratory safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Basic computer proficiency, with experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Field Data Collection (FDC) software preferred. Ability to read, write, and interpret procedures, manuals, technical documents, and reports related to construction materials testing and laboratory protocols. Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, field personnel, and clients to carry out instructions and report findings. Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. You will be required to input information from the sample forms into our database, prepare and process samples, and distribute sample reports. The Lab Technician is responsible for the daily cleanliness of the lab and monitoring supplies. Finally, the Lab Technician will provide customer service to our customers and fellow employees regarding the status of samples collected. Primary Responsibilities: Sort incoming samples for data entry. Enter information from sample bottle labels into a computer program designed to track sample results. Maintain and update customer information and sample result files. Maintain a library of interpretative information and trend data. Assist the Oil Lab Analyst who analyzes samples by processing them using sophisticated analytical equipment. Equipment includes but is not limited to FT-IR machines, ICP Spectrometers, Particle Counters, Viscometers, hot plates, and microscopes. Communicate results that indicate possible problems requiring urgent action to customers, Service personnel, and PSSRs. Receive customer phone calls and answer questions concerning sample results Additional Responsibilities: Maintain lab appearance and organization. Additional duties as assigned by manager.
