The Role

Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical raw materials, component development and qualification activities at suppliers. This role will be responsible for managing a team of chemical process and mining engineers who in turn will be responsible for qualifying ore extraction and refining critical cathode metals. This role will be high visible strategic role. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla, taking new battery designs from initial concept through into full production.

The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join in highly motivated and capable team to make unbelievable things into reality.

Responsibilities

+ Build a team of chemical, mining, project engineers to develop and oversee process/quality qualification requirements for battery metals.

+ Train and mentor the team to adopt to Tesla culture and be a role model.

+ Monitor production output at existing facilities and support expansion programs with existing major suppliers (mines & refineries)

+ Support design and start up stages of new producers(miners) that Tesla has supply agreements with

+ Project manage activities in mines and refineries

+ Act as a bridge between Tesla Materials engineering team and miners

+ Ensure on time completion of planned activities in mines

+ Periodic communication of the progress of activities in mines

+ Review mining process flow, call for action to reduce inefficacies in the process

+ Ensure safe operations of mines and identify opportunities for sustainable operations

Requirements

+ MS, PhD in Chemical or Mining engineering discipline, with 10+ years of experience Mining industry; 3+ years of leading/managing engineers

+ Experience working as mining process engineer especially battery cathode related metal (Lithium, Nickel, Cobalt) mining/refinery is desired

+ Experience in designing and commissioning refineries

+ Ability to travel - 35- 50% (domestic and international)

+ Self-starter and an active learner who can push the limits to disrupt the status quo

+ Experience in high volume manufacturing or direct experience in Battery related metal mining is highly desired.

+ Draft change orders. Solicit prices from subcontractors and suppliers. Perform scope take-off and estimate costs.

+ Participate/lead training sessions.

+ Act as the point person for document management applications.

**Qualifications**

+ Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or a degree in a related discipline.

+ 0-2+ years experience in a project engineer, or similar, role in the construction industry, experience with a general contractor preferred. Water or heavy civil experience is a plus.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling, cost engineering, subcontract coordination, and general project administration.

+ Familiarity reading drawings and specifications.

+ Knowledge of Primavera or similar is a plus

+ Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office products.

+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

+ Team player and reliable.

+ Interest and passion for building and the industry.

+ Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
