**Job Description**
The Biochemistry Group at NREL consists of talented scientists and technicians working on biological, chemical, catalytic, and materials research approaches for energy and economic solutions. The group has an opening for a full-time post-undergraduate intern which will be supporting research and development activities related to the valorization of critical metals from various feedstocks with a focus on valorizing rare metals from electronic waste using engineered proteins and bacteria that selectively bind and separate metals with high specificity.
Key responsibilities the selected intern will include but may not be limited to:

Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution.

Evaluate technical challenges and develop thorough resolution plans in coordination with engineering stakeholders

Basic Qualifications
Must be actively pursuing Bachelor's or higher degree in engineering or related technical field
Proficiency with at least one of the following skill areas: Fluid dynamics, Design for Manufacturing, Test Engineering, Materials/Chemical Engineering, Propulsion Engineering
Familiarity with Microsoft products, ANSYS Workbench/CFD, MATLAB, and CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Fusion, etc.)
Demonstrated experience solving engineering problems outside the classroom (ex: internships, extracurricular projects or teams, lab or research experience)
Ability to work in a fast-paced design and development environment
