As a Civil Engineering Intern for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) Gold River (Sacramento, CA) office, you'll support in-office and field activities primarily associated with environmental assessments, renewable energy (RNG, LTE, solar), aggregate facilities, industrial facilities, solid waste landfills and transfer station facilities. You'll have the opportunity to work across various disciplines including Geotechnical, Civil/Site, Environmental, and Waste Management.
In-office activities include engineering tasks such as tabulating laboratory and field test data, compilation of technical reports, and being exposed to and supporting various design efforts like site civil engineering, stormwater management system design, preparing construction drawings and specifications, quantity take offs and engineering cost estimates, slope stability and settlement analyses, preparing permitting documents, landfill base and cover design, and landfill gas collection system design. You may also support AutoCAD designs depending on your AutoCAD experience.
Field activities may include observation and logging of geotechnical borings and test pits, environmental monitoring (gas, groundwater, leachate, air), Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) tasks such as construction monitoring and documenting landfill cell, cap, and gas collection system construction, and use of equipment for monitoring landfill emissions. You will interact and communicate with CEC office and field staff, clients, and contractors. This position is an in office position.

Acquire practical experience applying knowledge from college courses, learn from industry experts, and collaborate with teams across functional groups and locations;
Develop a robust professional network through social events and interactive activities;
Collaborate closely with a mentor in your discipline to tackle real-world challenges; and
Participate in workshops to help foster interpersonal skills within the workplace and prepare students for success in their full-time careers.
The pay range for this position is between $20-25/hour based on experience and location (in addition, CEC offers overtime pay and other great benefits).
Qualifications
Current enrollment in an undergraduate Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering program, or related discipline;
Prior internship and/or related engineering and construction inspection experience preferred;
Ability to effectively communicate in person and via email;
Organizational skills required;
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software;
Ability to work both independently and within groups;
Experience using Excel spreadsheets to prepare calculations and analyze data;
Valid driver's license and transportation required;
AutoCAD or GIS experience preferred; and
Local candidates preferred, no relocation assistance.

MPC will provide training and educational opportunities to help you develop your knowledge of other engineering disciplines. Reliability Engineers support the refinery's Maintenance Department through design and development of equipment related improvements. Such improvements include root cause failure analysis, optimization of maintenance programs in rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, etc.), and troubleshooting fixed equipment (refinery pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems, etc.). Reliability Engineers will also be continuously challenged to find new technology in design, materials and repair methods to achieve refinery goals of longer running times at lower costs.

Some internship responsibilities require you to have the ability to work in a wide variety of field conditions (weather, terrain, etc.), walk long distances carrying a backpack, safely operate, load and transport equipment and gear, and cross fences, creeks, and other obstacles.
