Our summer internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid positions lasting 10-11 weeks. We offer competitive compensation, along with educational and social programming throughout the summer. For interns relocating more than 50 miles from home or school, we provide housing assistance and a relocation and transportation stipend.

Must Haves:

Working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in computer or software engineering, computer science or related engineering major with an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2026, Spring 2027, Winter 2027 or Spring 2028
The ability to participate full time (40 hours/week) as part of our intern cohort from June 1 - August 14 (semester system programs) or June 15 - August 21 (quarter system programs)
Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis and do not require sponsorship in the future for an employment visa. The base salary range is used nationally in the United States, excluding Puerto Rico. The Medtronic Internship Program offers an hourly rate of pay that falls within the range of $29.00 to $33.25 per hour. The hourly rate offered will be determined by the position and is subject to variation based on the number of years of school completed.

Position Highlights

Within the Enforcement Division, the Investigations Unit is responsible for:
Implementing the Department's Geospatial Measurement of Air Pollution (GMAP) program. The GMAP program involves the use of a motor vehicle equipped with air pollution analyzers, meteorological instrumentation, and GPS to conduct mobile enforcement screening and community-based monitoring of criteria air pollutants, air toxics, and greenhouse gases. The GMAP program plays an important role in enhancing the Department's responsiveness to residents' air quality concerns and in advancing the Department's commitment to community engagement and environmental justice/equity.

Conducting inspections of air pollution sources.

Operate, maintain, and calibrate the air pollution analyzers within the GMAP vehicle;

Maintain an inventory of spare parts, calibration gases, and other expendables necessary for the operation of the GMAP instrumentation;
Gather, synthesize, and prepare GMAP-acquired air quality data for supervisory review;
Validate GMAP-acquired data;
Assist in establishing community-based air quality monitoring programs;
Assist in conducting public outreach and participating in air quality workshops;
Participate in programs that promote environmental justice and equity;
Assist in developing emerging uses for the GMAP instrumentation;
Attend classroom training, workshops, seminars, or meetings to maintain and grow knowledge of the latest technology, information, and research within the field of air monitoring and GMAP;
Conduct acceptance testing of new equipment and prepare reports on findings;
Conduct inspections of certain sources of air pollution;
Respond to public complaints of potential air pollution incidents;
Prepare inspection reports;
Draft enforcement actions;
Prepare memoranda and correspondence.

Knowledge of basic engineering theories, principles and methods;
Skill in the use of drafting and calculating instruments;
Considerable ability to perform mathematical computations, making neat and accurate drawings and preparing minor design and structural details;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Professional experience or academic coursework in the principles and practices of air pollution control;
Professional experience or academic coursework in the interpretation, application, and enforcement of air pollution control statutes, regulations, and permits;
Professional experience or completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering discipline, or atmospheric science discipline;
Experience gathering, organizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and presenting data sets utilizing mapping applications;
Experience communicating technical, regulatory, and policy information pertaining to the air quality field to audiences verbally and in writing;
Experience installing, operating, calibrating, repairing, or maintaining air pollution monitoring equipment;
Experience reading and interpreting schematics, diagrams, and service manuals.
