Location: The selected candidate will be located at our Lockheed Martin Space facility in: Huntsville AL, and be expected to work in the office as needed and as appropriate. What does this role look like? As an Engineering Aide, you will be a key technical member supporting the design, development, test, and manufacturer of ground support hardware.
Key activities you will accomplish in this role:
• Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
• Assists engineers in collaboration with subsystem, survivability, environmental, and other specialty engineers to develop unique cables for various space products.
• Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
• Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.
• May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

The Valves, Actuators, and Ducts division of the Propulsion Engineering department is searching for a Mechanical Technician to support the Component Development Area (CDA). The CDA is a world-class small fabrication shop and testing laboratory supporting development and testing of space flight components and systems. The selected candidate must have practical experience and demonstrate knowledge in a wide range of technical and engineering methods that support tests at the CDA. Candidate will fabricate tubing, fixtures, pneumatic panels, hydraulic assemblies, and various mechanical systems; candidate will operate and maintain complex mechanical systems utilized in testing of space flight components.
Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Work directly with engineering personnel and/or senior technicians on the design, fabrication, installation, and operation of components and systems
* Usage and safe operation of mills, tube flaring equipment, saws, shear presses, grinders, and pneumatics
* Welding using various methodologies to assemble frames, test fixtures, and support assemblies for component testing
* Utilize detailed test procedures for safe operation of hydraulic, pneumatic, cryogenic, and high-pressure gas systems
* Interpret drawings, plans, and specifications for buildup and testing of flight type hardware and test components
* Utilize various tools and methods to perform work and maintenance on a variety of mechanical, fluid, and electrical components
* Fabrication, operation, and maintenance of hydraulic, cryogenic, pneumatic, and high-pressure gas systems
* Operate forklift, overhead crane, and man-lift equipment in the performance of work assignments as required
* Wear and utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing during performance of work duties, to include safety glasses/goggles, hard hats, gloves, masks, respirators, coveralls, harnesses, etc.
* Notify Supervisor and Management of any hazards or unsafe conditions in the workplace and advise on potential corrective actions

Qualifications:
Typically, educational requirement is a High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or equivalent and 2 years relevant previous experience that proves mechanical aptitude and ability to work effectively without direct supervision.

Essential Functions:
Physical Requirements: Requires standing for extended periods of time while working in a shop/lab environment supporting testing, equipment maintenance, facility buildup, and fabrication of parts, and will necessitate wearing appropriate PPE including safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection when required (85%). Requires sitting for short periods of time working at a computer and participating in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at MSFC facilities to discuss technical issues (15%). Limited lifting or work on ladder is required (10%). Work will be performed onsite at NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center (100%). Requires use of stairs or elevators to gain access to buildings.
Work Environment: Work will be performed indoors and outdoors at the Component Development Area Lab (85%) and in a general office environment (15%). Requires ability to interact effectively with co-workers, managers, and clients. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing.
Equipment and Machines: Requires the ability to operate hand tools and power equipment, including forklifts and overhead cranes, to support tasks at CDA (85%). Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, task related software, and other general office equipment (15%).
Attendance: Work assignments are normally 10 hour shifts, 4 consecutive days per week. Normal workday is 7:00 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday but may be adjusted to meet customer requirements or needs of employee. Regular attendance and punctuality are mandatory for meetings and other planned occasions.
Other Essential Functions: US Citizenship is required. Ability to communicate effectively and work under supervision is essential (100%). Your role:
Candidate will support propulsion testing at RTC's Test Area 5 (TA-5) to include Atmospheric, Static Firing, Dissection, and Liquid Propellant Support operations. Focus will be pre-test set up and post-test teardown of fixtures to include repair of same if required.
