Business Unit: Vacuum Induction Melting
In the VIM, Vacuum Induction Melting, we take scrap material in bulk quantities and we add that material to a vessel that is surrounded by refractory and melted using a large coil creating a fluctuating magnetic field. Once molten, we pour that material, all under vacuum, into molds, and then ship to the next process.
Ongoing Projects
* Thermal Camera utilization in the melt chambers to see operations through smoke and cloudy conditions
* Trialing new material to use on the molten metal to prolong the life of the refractory
* Process improvements to reduce the amount of time it takes to melt a heat
* Safety improvements throughout the shop making the high traffic areas safe for personnel interacting with mobile equipment
Your Role as an Intern
You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks:
Interns will assist in process engineering improvements, safety improvements across the shop, proper documentation of SOPs, JHAs, and SSWPs. Drive improvements across the vacuum department with help and guidance of already in place PE and MSS.

Pay Range
Hourly rates are based on: 1 - Program of study; 2 - Degree type (i.e., Bachelor's); 3 - Progression in degree (i.e., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.). The range for this position is $19.00-$25.00 per hour.
Commuting/Housing Assistance (If Eligible)
Interns who must commute to work from outside the immediate Reading, PAarea (over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $2,400 (less applicable taxes) as excessive commute allowance. Interns who choose to temporarily relocate from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (moving over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $4,800 (less applicable taxes) as a housing allowance. If applicable, this payment would be made during the first payroll cycle, which would be three or four weeks following the internship start date.

We are searching for an experienced Engineering Technologist to join the Multimodal Systems Department of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. The mission of the Department is to analyze, design, develop, and prototype sensor systems and networks for all DoD services, national intelligence, and other government agencies. The focus is on the development of systems that can support the warfighter in the near-term. Core mission areas include:
* Application of traditional systems and software engineering techniques for the design and development of complex sensor systems
* Application of modeling and simulation methodologies
* Approaches for Rapid Prototyping as a means of concept assessment, risk reduction, and accelerated capability fielding
* Utilization of agile development methods including DevSecOps for continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) software pipelines, and application to all facets of complex system development

You will:
* Supervise a team of junior Engineering Technologists and/or Engineering Technicians, to include hiring, training, mentoring, tasking and performance review
* Collaborate with project leadership on the conceptual design of complex electromechanical systems and subsystems
* Collaborate with engineering staff and engineering technologists in developing, defining, and/or deriving requirements to support the design of engineering products
* Guide and provide input for technical work activities performed by engineering support staff and/or less experienced engineering technologists
* Research, evaluate, and recommend new engineering products and tooling to support the development of project systems
* Perform design, development, fabrication, installation, and use of custom electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems
* Prepare test plans, procedures, reports, and other forms of formal documentation
* Develop specialized electrical, mechanical, and/or software tools to support testing of complex electromechanical systems
* Utilize computer-aided design software to develop electrical, mechanical, and/or software products
* Collaborate with a broad range of interoffice organizations to accomplish all phases of project development
* Conduct tests, provide results, address issues, and recommend modifications related to electrical, mechanical, or software subsystems
* Coordinate and schedule technical training on new equipment
* Assist with the management of all lab spaces assigned to the Department and Division, including inventory and resource management
* Plan the layout and make equipment recommendations that meet the specific lab needs as new lab spaces are needed

Responsible for the setup and performance of equipment and instrumentation. Builds and/or adapts equipment for any given experimental series. The JGM Engineering Graduate Rotational Program is a comprehensive 18-month initiative designed to provide recent engineering graduates with hands-on experience to help launch their career in structural steel fabrication. As an
Associate Fabrication Engineer
in this program, participants will gain exposure to three key areas within JGM: Shop Floor Operations, Production Control, as well as Estimating/Purchasing. + Intern Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Environmental field operations; utilizing GPS and GIS technology and participation as an environmental team member
Compilation, review, and QA/QC environmental reports.

Perform wetland and watercourse delineations, compile wetland reports, and assist with Jurisdictional Determinations.
