S&ME's Spark Internship Program is open to current students from a variety of different educational backgrounds and career focus. Internship opportunities are available across our various Service Lines including: Civil Engineering, Construction Services and Materials Testing, Environmental Services and Industrial Hygiene, Geotechnical Engineering, and Transportation Design-Build.
As part of the 2026 Spark Internship Program, you will work alongside experienced professional and technical employee-owners within your area of interest. You will be a part of an intern cohort and will learn about all aspects of S&ME. S&ME's internship will provide you with invaluable hands on experience, access to technical experts across the company, as well as provide professional development to help you transition from campus to career and find success in our industry.
Qualifications:
Enrolled in a related degree program; Rising Juniors, Seniors, or Graduate students preferred;
Related experience and/or campus, community, work-related leadership experience preferred;
At least 18 years of age;
Out of town travel may be required;
For technical roles the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions is required;
Routine lifting may be required: 40 to 50 lbs.

These are full-time, internship positions for a twelve-week period from May 2026 through August 2026 with competitive pay based on experience. Housing or a housing stipend will not be provided. Support model launch at manufacturing plants through pre-launch activities for initial setup, die trials, and tooling-hand over. Ability to lead toolroom/ shop activities. Lead die build confirmation (T0-T1 activities, DMR confirmation, Shipping confirmation, etc.). Basic computer knowledge needed for data entry, XVL viewing, printing. Must be willing to learn, use QuickBase software. Die line try activities with Die Manufacturing and NAMC pilot team. Die tryout lead at the NAMC and countermeasure direction setting. Support for die data feedback and die design reviews. Safety, quality and productivity confirmation of die and part. Documentation of activities, handover, and reflection for the manufacturing plant.

Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technologist

SUMMARY: Leads assigned engineering tasks and maintenance activities. At this level, the employee is expected to execute tasks with no supervision evaluating alternative courses of action and making independent decisions for response. Serves as a subject matter expert to the processes involved with implementation of maintenance programs, systems, automation, PLCs, processes, and lead optimization of maintenance/facilities projects for equipment reliability. Effective and highly skilled at systematic troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment issues in support of Manufacturing and Maintenance. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualified applicant should be familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, and AutoCAD.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Including but not limited to the following.
Responsible for all PLC programming for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and automation for equipment reliability
Effective and systematic equipment troubleshooting w/ ability to direct maintenance technicians and or contractors
Lead installation of industrial equipment such as machinery and automation
Provide technical “hands on” support to maintenance personal on advance troubleshooting of mechanical/electrical/control issues and planned outages
Developing and implementing maintenance schedules, identifying and ordering necessary parts, and ensuring that all equipment meets regulatory standards
Performing regular inspections machine Gemba walks, making any necessary repairs, and adapting or replacing outdated technology or machines with newer, better models
Installing and upgrading system components to improve system optimization and perform diagnostic systems to locate any adjustments needed
Promote the effective use and accuracy of the departmental CMMS, i.e. work orders, PM's, spare parts, critical spares.
Participate in the evaluation team skillset and provide recommendations on internal or external training.
Analyzes and determines best action identifies improvement opportunities for installed equipment.
Reduces operational costs through cost-reduction ideas and initiatives.
Mentor and train maintenance technicians.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise or lead maintenance technicians as required.
