Job DescriptionSalary: $23.00 Horwitz is seeking motivated and professional students for our Engineering Internship Program. This hands-on program provides real-world experience across various engineering disciplines, including Estimating, Service, Preconstruction, Construction, and Design. Graduates/ Interns will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, project managers, and estimators, gaining valuable skills and insights in the field of mechanical engineering. RESPONSIBLITIES/DUTIES BY DEPARTMENT: These responsibilities generally describe the nature of each position and may not be all inclusive: Estimating Assist in reviewing construction drawings and specifications to help develop basic material and labor take-offs for mechanical systems. Support the preparation of cost estimates by organizing vendor quotes, updating Excel worksheets, and learning estimating software tools. Participate in jobsite walkthroughs and internal estimate review meetings to understand field conditions, scope alignment, and the overall estimating process. Service Assist with entering and organizing incoming service requests while learning how calls are reviewed, documented, and prioritized within the service department. Support dispatch and scheduling activities by helping track technician availability, job status updates, and parts-related follow-ups to ensure smooth workflow. Shadow service coordinators and leadership to observe customer communication, dispatch decision-making, and overall service operations. Preconstruction Manage and solicit Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for project planning. Learn to size and select key mechanical HVAC equipment. Attend job site meetings and walkthroughs, supporting the Preconstruction Manager. Assist in project estimating and gain insight into Horwitzs sales process, including equipment selection and procurement. Construction Join project managers on job site meetings and walkthroughs. Support project management on various projects by preparing O&M manuals, performing Revit modeling, and conducting load calculations. Provide additional support during vacation staffing to maintain project continuity. Design Perform BTU load calculations to assist in equipment sizing for specific projects. Use drafting software (e.g., Revit) to create permit and installation-level drawings. Conduct field visits with lead designers to document existing equipment and site details. Engage in team meetings and research to ensure code compliance and design accuracy. Perform other duties as assigned. SKILLS/ABILITES: Strong verbal and written communication for collaborating with team members and attending meetings. Ability to analyze blueprints, conduct load calculations, and perform detailed data entry.
