On any give day, you'll:
Perform field work, herbicide application, and mechanical control (using brush cutters, mowers, and hand tools)
Live plant, shrub, and tree installation; algae control applications; tree and shrub removal; litter pick up; and seed and erosion control blanket installation
Use power tools, trailers, and motorized equipment to perform work
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years or older
Must have a valid driver's license
Illinois Pesticide Applicator or Operator license required 60 days prior to employment (HLR will assist with licensure costs)
Experience communicating effectively with residents and other stakeholders
Enthusiastic, courteous, positive attitude, and team spirit
Ecology background is a plus, but not required
Physical Demands:
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (cold, damp, heat, humidity, insects, pollen, wet conditions, etc.) for extended periods of time

As an EHS Intern, you will:
Assist in conducting safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Support compliance activities related to OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
Help develop and update training materials, safety procedures, and emergency response plans.
Analyze EHS data and recommend improvements to reduce incidents and ensure compliance.
Complete a capstone intern project and present results to leadership.
Qualifications
We're seeking motivated students who are ready to learn, grow, and contribute:
Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
Knowledge of safety principles, environmental regulations, or compliance programs preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Collaborative mindset with a willingness to take initiative.
Ability to work on-site at one of our locations for the duration of the program.
